I recently got my old laptop access to the great and vast interwebz. Let me give you an idea of how old it is. I had to get a Ethernet to usb converter. So yeah it has 97MB of RAM and some rubbish processor...but it's enough to browse the web in bed and do homework (and other stuff :q:) Anyhow...I was wondering what is a good stripped down web browser that will maybe give it a bit of performance boost
well what windows is it running
Windows 2000
It does have IE 5 but I was just wondering if there is something a bit faster
Opera maybe?
Links
Opera would be the best choice.
Alright I'll give Opera a go

Did this sound ridiculous to anyone else?
Just the way he phrased it...
Also, Lynx is tiny.
Google chrome
Mosaic
Agreed.
Google chrome
Doesn't run on 2000
Put a simple Linux distro on it if you want it running as good as possible.

My ethernet converter doesn't have linux drivers
Download the source and imagine the page in your head.

WOW you're technology is superb, try using my 486dx Laptop (75mhz), 24mb Ram, 2gb HDD and a 3.5inch floppy drive and for connectivity a serial port! Or you could try using my superfast desktop
CPU: Pentium MMX (233Mhz)
RAM: 94Mb
HDD: 2Gb + 900Mb
Graphics: 1Mb vram, 0 pixel shaders
Dude, dont talk to me about old computer stuff, most of it is nice a new compair to what I used to use.
Edit:
I could surf the net on all of them, including my old 386 with Windows 3.11!
k-meleon. You can remove most of the DLLs it comes with without affecting stability. I use a striped down version of the browser, and it takes up like 600 Kb space.
It's about as fast as firefox 3, but not quite as pretty.
Lynx.

I love the bullshit in that post.

ie5
Google Chrome is very simple.
Links is very nice and fast, but way too simple. It looks like this when you run it:

Chrome doesn't work on 2000 from what I've heard, and is designed for more powerful systems. If you want one that renders everything like images and stuff, I guess Opera would be a good choice. But I suggest looking at and trying everyone else's suggestions.
Download a visual basic created one :)

Use ndiswrapper
Download a visual basic created one :)
That's basically IE.
