• Case fans; need buying advice

So basically my graphics card is running a bit hot, and I've decided to add additional case fans at the top of my corsair 800d (where the lq radiator normally goes) to remedy this. I need three fans at 120mm, noise is an important factor as the computer is literally one foot away from my bed. The second most important factor is price, I'm somewhat poor at the moment and I don't feel like spending over about $30 total (converted from SEK). But the most important factor is that it's available at my preffered online retailer, www.dustinhome.se Here's a link to the case fan section: http://www.dustinhome.se/lp_5327_355.aspx (note it has 5 pages) Thanks in advance. [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] Also while I'm blowing money, I remembered I've been wanting to buy a fan controller because they look so cool but never did because I have no need for it. Now since I'm adding more fans than I think I have connections for I might downright need it, and it would be nice to be able to tone down the noise when I go to bed. So, front panel fan controller suggestions: go!
Built in LEDs?
Built in LEDs?
Not necessary but I would appreciate blue ones if they still hold quality and don't cost too much.
I have no idea what your budget is because you only gave it in $ and direct conversion never works as always http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010382689.aspx
The basic rules are low-RPM and high-CFM, that way I've never gone wrong.
somewhat confused as to why you bought an 800D for air cooling but whatever [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] if the gentle typhoons are too much then maybe http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010140960.aspx it would help if we had your budget in kr

[editline]21st January 2011[/editline] Wait that sounds stupid because the 800d is like $200+. [editline]21st January 2011[/editline] Also budget in kr is 200-300 for fans plus about 300 for a front panel. Is this good? http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010141132.aspx?
sounds like you would have been better off with the 650D they're releasing soon
sounds like you would have been better off with the 650D they're releasing soon
Well it's a year old build so not much consolation there. But back on subject, I've heard good things about the gentle typhoons but they're sold in loads of different RPM's, what's the "butter zone" of low noise and high throughput?
the 1450 RPM I linked seems to be the "sweet spot" for noise/performance, the one I have in my build is quieter than anything else I have in here, even the two noctua fans running at 1000RPM although the highest I've seen my motherboard take it is 950RPM and I have yet to find a way to manually control it, but it's still pretty damn quiet and pulls enough air
I believe you can change the fan speed in your bios
not mine, one of the main complains I've seen about the gigabyte bios is there's no detailed fan controls, changing the CPU fan from automatic to fully on is about as detailed as it gets
Fair enough, I suppose you've tried some third party programs
the 1450 RPM I linked seems to be the "sweet spot" for noise/performance, the one I have in my build is quieter than anything else I have in here, even the two noctua fans running at 1000RPM although the highest I've seen my motherboard take it is 950RPM and I have yet to find a way to manually control it, but it's still pretty damn quiet and pulls enough air
You've probably already tried it, but SpeedFan is for this.
speedfan's never worked for me on any system I've tried it on, reads temps and speeds fine but not the fan control
speedfan's never worked for me on any system I've tried it on, reads temps and speeds fine but not the fan control
Same thing, anyone got a decent software fan controller? And yes, I did google it. But all the results looked shitty.
I've been giving it some thought and I'm not sure I can justify the gentle typhoons cost. I keep reading good things about fans half their price that more than match my requirements. And to add on that, I can't decide if I want blue LED fans or not, it would fit my existing blue CCFL lights but it feels so tacky.
if you need something cheaper than go for fractal's 120mm, fractal are pretty much the silence company and don't rice your build up with lights
if you need something cheaper than go for fractal's 120mm, fractal are pretty much the silence company and don't rice your build up with lights
Not that I distrust you but do you have tests/reviews of a professional nature to back this up? I looked but it seems very few people bother to review case fans and even fewer in a professional manner and even fewer still have done so in the last couple of years. Also
don't rice your build up with lights

it would fit my existing blue CCFL lights
Bit late now, but yeah three glowing fans wouldn't fit with the rest of corsairs matte black ones and 140mm fans to replace them are hard to find as it is, nevertheless glowing blue ones. Still, gonna think about it.
it's hard to find proper reviews of case fans, mostly I just find out by seeing the general impressions of every review I find it's very rare that you can be more specific than "it's quiet but pushes a fair amount of air" [editline]22nd January 2011[/editline] I can at least personally vouch for the gentle typhoon, the fractal fans I just know to be quiet from reviews of their cases which also use them
