Havok, a leading provider of interactive 3D game technology, today announced the launch of a major new version of its industry-leading Havok Physics technology. The release is the culmination of more than 5 years of internal R&D effort. It features significant technical innovations in performance, memory utilization, usability and simulation quality, and represents a major leap forward in physics simulation for games.
and so am I
If Sources already uses it, I hope Valve will have Source 2 or the next Game engine utilize it!
I want a game that has Red Faction destruction physics on a large scale.
Neat, hope this includes some shiny new water physics features & destructible environments.
Xperia™ PLAY is not only a fantastic smartphone on the latest Android™ platform, it also offers the best mobile gaming experience available. We are very pleased to be working with Havok to bring new levels of cinematic and immersive gaming experiences, never before seen on smartphones, to the Android™ platform.
this is extremely wrong
Finally, Havoc was getting old. It's about time they actually add stuff to it.

Water is an absolute bitch to simulate, the most you can hope for is a tiny amount.
watch it not run on any console and therefore no one uses it
So this is why Episode 3 is delayed, Valve is waiting for the Havok 2 to make the last episode look purty.
I'm very happy about this. Even though graphics always move forwards, I always feel physics is somewhat lacking in advancement.
this is extremely wrong
Pfft, yeah. It still has Gingerbread, and Sony doesn't even care about it anymore.

Well, they say they but 5 years of R&D into it, so it better be good.
E3 can suck it. GDC is what I look forward to every year.

Kojima is expected to demo the FOX engine and make an announcement there on the 27th

No
Look at Hydrophobia
Hydrophobia's whole game was to be advertised on the gimmick that they could do water physics. It's literally the whole concept of the game and they took forever just to get it right.

So yeah, water is a bitch to simulate perfectly. We can copy it to an extent, but most games can't get it just right.

Physx seems to be fine with water
Physx seems to be fine with water
You're joking with me right? It uses lots of small balls to generate it's physics for water.
[editline]13th March 2013[/editline]
Which is extremely resource-inefficient and doesn't produce realistic water physics.
Fuck yeah! I remember back then it was the best thing. UT2K4 had it iirc and the ragdolls felt fucking magical to me.
Saw an advertisement for it in the Game Developer magazine last week. Here's hoping for OpenCL-powered physics.
The timer on their site with the Newton's cradle is about two times slower than a real clock.
I always liked PhysX more because it's free for anyone to use, but this sounds pretty neat. Excited to see what they can do with 5 years of R&D.
Euphoria is still better than any havok driven physics engine. Unless this next version of havok has physics-driven animation, it probably won't be as good as euphoria

Euphoria is middleware, you can have it run alongside havok anyway (see: SW:TFU)
That's because Euphoria isn't physics, at all.

Physics can be a lot more computer expensive than graphics though. Especially because you generally have to calculate it on the CPU, which is made for multipurpose calculations. As opposed to the GPU which is specifically designed and built to perform graphics calculations.
Not to mention the CPU has to calculate just about everything except for some of the graphics (more and more is being pushed to the GPU, but there are still a few heavy things that are done on the CPU then sent to the GPU). It's already under heavy load.
next time..

Looked fine to me but okay thanks for that opinion?

euphoria is an animations engine
