As the title states, I just got dual monitors. What do I need to know? What should I get? Thanks for all the help.
Works fine as is generally. I've had a few games where the mouse has tried to move off of one screen onto the other, but they were all fairly dated.
Yeah, I just tried it with STALKER. Any way I can get it to run across both screens?
Yeah, I just tried it with STALKER. The best use is for browsing while gaming, or browsing and working. Programs seem to learn to open on your second monitor if you drag them there whenever you open them the first few times.

Wait with that till you got 3 screens.

I just disconnect my second monitor if I'm going to play something that isn't stable with dual-monitors. The only game i know that is "unstable" is Sid Meier's Civilization V.

Thanks for the tips guys, keep em coming.
Another thing you can do is make wallpapers span across both monitors without a new program Simply pick an image that is the size you want, like 2 1920x1080 monitors are 3840x1080 and set it as wallpaper. Then set the mode to 'Tile'. Then it will span across instead of showing it scrunched up twice. If you want to show two different pictures, try stitching them together in paint, or use Display Fusion, which allows you to use multiple different wallpapers at once for individual monitors

I fully recommend it. It let's you also set separate screen-savers for each monitor, different wallpapers for each monitor, and also let's you change the monitor to mirror, extended or just off on the fly. Also hot keys. Nvidia also has some features in their latest drivers for Multi-monitor setups.
Just for curosity, whats better with having 2 screens?
Just for curosity, whats better with having 2 screens?
Screen space If you're moving files somewhere, or internet browsing or programming, you can do it all at once without breaking flow and having to open individual windows. They can all be open at once easily. You can also have a movie on full monitor, and be playing a game on another. Or any combination of anything.
Hold the windows key and press P to toggle which monitors are turned on. This is useful for turning off the secondary monitor if you need a higher framerate in games.
On windows 7? Love to snap your windows to half of the screen? Can't do it where the monitors join? Win Key + Left / Right arrow key.
I hear this comes highly recommended. http://www.displayfusion.com/
I hear this comes highly recommended. http://www.displayfusion.com/
This. Try it first, after 30 days you'll see, it does value the 20$ it costs. (Really buy the 35$ illimited version, so you can put it on all your computers with dual monitors)
DisplayFusion
Two taskbars is a huge gimmick, the only reason to use ultramon or display fusion is to make dual monitor wallpapers easier.

Although I used to use Ultramon for the display switching button in window title bars, but stopped using that once I discovered shift+win+left/right, and in Windows 7, dragging while maximised.
Just for curosity, whats better with having 2 screens?
Basically you can do shit while doing other shit, without having to tab all the time. Sounds dumb, but it's a luxury only few gets to enjoy.
You get to do this:
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1439918/Pics/2011-06-11_2057.png[/img_thumb]
Browsing on my left monitor, gaming and general usage on my main monitor. It is amazing.
Ugh, I have two monitors and I never remember to use the other. I was the same way when I upgraded to a huge-ass monitor/screen resolution, I just fullscreened everything :(
Make sure you run Source games with -windowed and -noborder in the launch options. For example, you can have TF2 on one monitor with your browser on the other. Then you just have to press the Windows key to switch from the game to your other monitor without minimizing the game. It keeps running as normal.
Okay, so I had to unplug my second monitor, and when I put it back in I can only use my primary monitor. What do? EDIT: Like, stuff still happens and I can see on the secondary, but I cant mouse over to it. [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] Okay, wow. It decided that the monitor jumped to the left when I unplugged it and I just had to tell it that it's still to the right.

I've had Aero off for months now for this reason amongst others - with a nice black theme rather than the shitty light blue one it's actually not bad at all.
