Britain will overtake France to become the second-biggest economy in Europe behind Germany next year, the International Monetary Fund has said.
It predicts growth of 3.2 per cent in the UK this year and 2.7 per cent in 2015, compared with just 0.4 per cent and 1 per cent in France.
The estimates mean output in Britain will total £1.9trillion next year – outstripping the £1.8trillion France is expected to produce. However, the UK still lags behind Germany’s £2.4trillion economy.

France’s ailing economy has been delivered another blow as ratings agency Standard and Poor’s lowered its outlook from “stable” to “negative,” saying its financial recovery is “elusive.”
France’s credit rating remains at “AA” – the third highest rating – though S&P indicated that could change in the next two years if France’s fragile financial situation worsens.
The ratings agency expects government deficits will take up an increasingly large portion of the country’s GDP, and has lowered its growth forecast from 2.5 per cent by 2017 to 2 per cent.
S&P’s decision comes after economic projections from the International Monetary Fund that said Britain would overtake France as Europe’s second biggest economy by 2015.
Britain, which has an “AAA” credit rating and a “stable” outlook according to S&P, is expected to grow 3.2 per cent this year and 2.7 per cent in 2015 compared to France’s predicted growth of 0.4 per cent and 1 per cent.
Those growth projections would put the UK economy at £1.9 trillion, and France at £1.8 trillion.

Three cheers for the long term economic plan!
And three cheers for socialist spending making it so much more easy for the UK
Great! But what does this mean for us, the common peasants that work the land under austerity, bedroom tax and benefit cuts?
United Kingdom! FUCK YEAH!
Damn! Can anyone explain me how germanys economy can be so much bigger than britain when britain has a higher global influence, i think?

It means that evil evil tory government thats made you a wage slave can pay for the utilities that keep your life running smoothly and all those companies you buy stuff from can provide more

Because we produce very little compared to Germany. Germany is very much a massive industrial country

The UK's economy is more service driven while Germany's is more manufacturing.

Germany doesn't do much military stuff whereas we get involved in all sorts, is one reason.
Being both British and French, this is the best and worst news I could hear. Beating the French at something yet being beaten by the British...

Germany also has more people
does this mean crossiants are going to get more expensive
This is why I'm voting Tories again
And it only cost the total ravaging of the public sector! Hoorah!
Hasn't this been predicted every single year for the past 5 years?

France's is hardly any better, because the Socialist party has destroyed their economy, they can hardly sustain it.
I really thought the UK was already in front of France for that matter.

Well to be fairly honest the economy was already down the shitter before the socialists even got elected. The previous two presidents (one of which held mandate like three times in a fucking row) fucked up the economy quite badly but the socialists couldn't fix anything and even contributed to making shit worse on some occasions.
France has no industry
