Right, as the title suggests, I'm about to buy a XFX ATi 4890.
So just minutes ago, I strolled around YouTube, looking at benchmarks and what not for it, when I stumple upon the following comment:
"Be VERY carefull when choosing a hd4890 at the moment especially xfx released a batch of cards that have big performance loss problems with the 4890 we all know.
Dont take my word search the web, also
Make sure to choose 1 with a refrence board and that doesnt mean if its a refrence cooler its a refrence board, almost all red boards are refrence* and all the xfx xxxx4890s are refrence so not affected but dont buy one with the serial ending in ZDFL or ZDEC like i did,doh.... "
Right, so the 4890 I'm about to buy looks like this:

And, well, I'm quite sure that's the card with performance losses. (Seeing as it's the "New" 4890.)
Does anyone know how much of a performance loss we're speaking of?

Oh, and is this information valid at all? Or is it just another 14 year old "All knower" on YouTube?
[editline]05:32PM[/editline]
Oh, and it's serial number is XFX HD-489X-ZSFC.
bull shit, i bet his card was bottlenecked and didnt know what to do and spammed youtube saying all the cards suck

aka 14year old youtuber
I read on reviews on computer stores that sold XFX 4890, and there were 2 of them. All reviews on one of them had stuff like "Worthless piece of crap" while the other XFX 4890 had the good reviews such as "Performs beautifuly, do not regret I bought it!"
Well, that's good to hear. Then I can ask another question I already know the answer to, but still, just to be sure.
How well is this card going to work with the following components/OS?
CPU: Intel Core i5 750
RAM: 4gb ddr3
PSU: Corsair 650 w.
Mobo: GiGabyte P55 UD3
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
it will be fine, i doubt a bottleneck will occur
[editline]05:59PM[/editline]
the psu will also be fine

Mind providing me with a link to it?
There won't be any bottlenecking there.
Take user reviews/comments on YouTube/online shops with a bucket of salt, please. Do your own research - read professional, thorough reviews and then make up your own mind.

I've already tried doing so. Found nothing about this card in particular. That's why I turned to you.
[editline]07:26PM[/editline]
Managed to find some reviews of this card after all.
"This card's cooler is definitely better than my old XFX 4890. It is actually about 10-12 degrees cooler than my old XFX 4890( the one that first came out). You can overclock this with the CCC to over 900MHZ no problem and it still runs pretty cool. I would buy again. "
"This is without a doubt the best GPU I've owned to date. It is super quiet yet has excellent cooling. It is crazy fast too. I can run Crysis on max settings with this vid card. I recommend this to anybody who wants a nicely priced gaming card. "
"The best graphic card I've ever owned. Better than Nvidias and 4870s I had before. Its a good card no overheat and good noise level for a card like that. Thanks ATI and NCIX"
"maxes out every game i run, not too loud. overall great card."
All of them were written like, three weeks ago.
No.
No.
No as in; "No there is no performance loss" ?

I'm not. I just stumbled upon that comment while I looked at gameplay videos of it. The reviews I listed are all official.

No.
I just asked the YouTube guy what he meant by performance loss. Apparently, that version of the 4890 is not as overclockable as the other versions. (Max stable clock of it was 910 MHz according to him.) Why? It does not have voltera chips.
It doesn't matter for me, though, as I won't do any overclocking anyways.
thats fine, buy it, then post pics of your upgraded system :smug:

I will. Buying the 4890 this monday.
My case looks like shit, though. I just re-used an old case that originally was for a prebuilt. It's 7 years old.

Isn't it pre-overclocked anyways?

Yeah, he told me over steam that it was a pre-overclocked one.
[editline]09:33PM[/editline]
That must be it right there.
that is one badass box
man fuck box shaped boxes, I want all my boxes to be letter shaped

It almost looks like an accident...
remindes me of the crysis computer they made back in the day
I know for sure there was a bad batch of sapphire 4890 vapor x s a while back. I'm not sure about xfx though, but I doubt a bad batch would have performance loss, rather they would just not work at all.

No. It's not. The one I'm buying is the one in the OP. The version RampageTurk posted's the XXX version. The version I'm buying is only SLIGHTLY overclocked.
There are a few bad cards around that get lower fps and a much lower score in 3d Mark Vantage than other cards, they all have the black pcb's so yours may or may not have the problem aswell, i've got a standard XFX with a black pcb and it seems fine to my knowledge, but I haven't actually tested it in 3dmark to find out.
The cards with black PCB are apparently corner cutting none standard designs, either way my none-overclocked xfx 4890 gets 40-50fps average in Crysis Warhead at 1920x1080 on Gamer settings and over 60fps in fallout 3 with texture mods, 4xAA and 8xAF, so if my card is one of the bad ones, i don't really care right now.
