Republican politician Michele Fiore has sparked outrage by suggesting that 'young, hot little girls' can best avoid being raped by carrying automatic weapons. "If these young, hot little girls on campus have a firearm, I wonder how many men will want to assault them," Fiore told the New York Times. The Nevada Assemblywoman added: "The sexual assaults that are occurring would go down once these sexual predators get a bullet in their head."
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/michele-fiore-republican-politician-says-hot-little-girls-should-carry-guns-at-university-so-they-dont-get-raped-10056348.html
Wow, that's.... really fucking dumb. Jeez. I mean I like guns, but almost literally throwing them at a problem doesn't usually solve it.
If walls had guns bad things wouldn't happen. I love such smart, creative people.
While the way it was said was stupid, being armed would reduce your chances of getting raped, murder, assaulted etc. Edit: How about instead of just spamming me disagree ratings you actually explain yourself instead of jumping on the "Republicans are always retards" bandwagon.
While the way it was said was stupid, being armed would reduce your chances of getting raped, murder, assaulted etc.
Would it? You need to be trained to use a firearm. Hot little girls don't have such training, they'd be dangerous.
Holy shit republicans are retarded
“So I ask, what’s your point? Are you opposed to the right to self defense or are you arguing that rape is the new normal of attending college?"
She mentions in the quote before this one that she could phrase her thoughts more eloquently, but fucking hell.
Calling women "hot little girls," jesus christ republicans what the hell.
The rapists will just get bigger guns, prompting the women to get guns that are bigger again, and the cycle repeats until humanity is destroyed by a gun so large it consumes the world.
honestly expected an Onionnews article
Would it? You need to be trained to use a firearm. Hot little girls don't have such training, they'd be dangerous.
You may not know this, but is nearly every US state to carry a concealed firearm you have to undergo appropriate training. Even then, it's not fucking difficult to point and aim a gun at a man-sized target at close range. People who take proactive steps to not become a victim are usually less likely to not be the victim of crime. This can range from simple things like not walking alone at night in a bad neighborhood to having the means to protect yourself.
http://goprapeadvisorychart.com/ ?
Those are more to do with defending the act of rape, where as this article is about defending people from rape.
Let's give guns to children too so they don't get bullied. Yeeehaw, billy-bob! ain't there a problem guns can't solve!
Or they could have something less lethal, like mace. And even then the argument should not be "how to arm yourself against rape" but "how do we stop people from raping other people. Sure you should take some precautions but everyone shouldn't have to walk around touting a loaded gun to get people to not assault them.

I don't see any way to get people to stop raping, I mean, everyone raised in a first world country knows it's wrong. Therefore, the only thing that can help at the moment is women taking steps to not be victims. And carrying a pistol is a good step to take.

" from rating icons.
I bet the amount of accidental shootings would almost triple and this comment relies on the stereotype that rapists hide in bushes at night. Realistic, you're more likely to more likely to meet a rapist at a house party
So her solution for lowering sexual assaults is for a bullet in the head.
Doesn't sound too bad actually. Rapists are lowlife scum and if a few of them get a bullet in their brain during the act, I don't feel bad about it.
How about we try to encourage people to stop assaulting others and actually educate people on why it's fucking wrong as opposed to just "let's kill them". I'm all for plugging holes in rapists, but how about we try not to have rapists in the first place?

Sure you should take some precautions but everyone shouldn't have to walk around touting a loaded gun to get people to not assault them.
Ah, I get ya, just came up with my own, improved solution! Just take all the rapists and line them up in front of guns and be done with it, right? Or better yet, during all intercourse, a rape-prevention device aims an anti-rape gun loaded with 00-rape-prevention-buckshot at the temple of the person penetrating but it doesn't go off as long as the person being penetrated repeatedly states 'I consent' in an audible manner in 5 second intervals. Or better yet, both persons taking part in the intercourse have guns, they aim at each other from opposite sides of a room and carefully approach each other until intercourse takes place, being careful to keep each other in their sights during the act. Or even better, lets stop milking various social issues for gun arguments in the most shameless, sensationalist and disrespectful way and leave that discussion for people who are actually interested in solutions, not the agendas of very specific lobbies with very specific interests that are fundamentally different from rape prevention

It doesn't work as evident by our prisons full of said people.
I like guns and all, but they don't really seem appropriate for the kind of sexual assault that college campuses have the most trouble with. Shadowy alley-rapists is a bit less pervasive than drink pressuring.

This is one of the most anti-gun places on the internet!

No matter how much you educate. Guns are for the small outliers who no matter what social pressure say, will still commit crimes.
A friend of mine carry mace and a taser.

The nice thing about tasers as opposed to guns is it generally leaves the suspect alive, and some of them record evidence on camera and mark the suspect if they manage to escape. Also, if you get shot by a taser you're not raping anybody.
Lets teach thieves not to steal. Lets teach murderers not to murder. It doesn't work as evident by our prisons full of said people.
In most cases I would agree with your sentiment, but it's my understanding that a lot of rape, especially in college is less the physically violent type most people probably think of and more taking advantage of people being drunk or high. As such, educating people that if a person is unable or doesn't consent, then it's rape, is something which could have a positive impact. More to the point, a gun is going to do nothing positive when the person being raped isn't even in a state where they could consent.
