Hello Facepunch, I'm getting a new computer and I need to know some things, what are the most affordable, and good Cpu's/Graphics cards, I also need to know what a good amount of ram is for a gaming PC. Seeing as I am getting(making) a new gaming computer.
Build your computer, what's your budget/location?
[editline]01:56AM[/editline]
And when are you planning on making this purchase?

Depending on budget but good setup is core i5 and 5850. Also 4 gigs of ddr3. But it depends on budget. For top of the line dual 5870s and a core i7.

Budget is no higher than 1,000 and I live in Canada. Plan to get this in time for Christmas.

Well you should get it soon if you are buying soon and for that budget core i5 and 5850 and all the other stuff you want.
4GB of RAM or higher is good for a gaming PC. As for the CPU's, I'd recommend an AMD Phenom II. I always found AMD better than Intel when it comes to gaming, but that's just my experience.
What kind of Motherboard do you suggest to?
What kind of Motherboard do you suggest to?
Well, assuming you'd get a Phenom II CPU, I'd say this motherboard would work, and the price ain't bad:

Or if you can spend a bit more, you get this guy, though you can't get use a AM3 socket CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131323&Tpk=m3n72-d
I have this motherboard myself, and it's the best money I've ever spent.
No he should get an i5.
[editline]02:21AM[/editline]
Phenoms are SHIT for just about everything, and they're fucking old.
Phenom II's are a bit better, but he'd be better with an i5.
[editline]02:23AM[/editline]
anyway, if he was getting an AMD CPU, he shouldn't get an AM2+/AM3 board, then you can only use ddr2 + l3 cache disabled
Alright so heres my plan so far
INTEL I5-750 2.66GHz SKT1156 8M
HD5850 GDDR5 1GB 2xDVI/HDMI
SAMSUNG SATA II 1TB 7200RPM 32MB
DDR3 4GB KIT 1333MHz CL9
Looking ok? Beacuse if I go over budget I have a backup plan
AMD PHENOM II X4 945 3.0GHz AM3
GTX-260 GDDR3-896MB DVI-I
SAMSUNG SATA II 1TB 7200RPM 32MB
DDR3 3GB KIT 1333MHz CL9

Because?
Edit: Yeah, the Phenoms are shit.

I had to link the 5850 to newegg.com because it's not on newegg.ca, but I changed the price to CAD.
Total $1044
It's a little over budget, but it's a build you won't regret.
