They're both $14.99 and yet if you buy the gold edition, it's $20 for both.
i don't get it
Just don't make the mistake of buying SC2. It's a shitty cut down version of SC1. I got burned $50 for that detritus game.
Oh man, I got this for Christmas one year, but my PC was shitty and couldn't run any games that were on GFWL at the time, so I never played it.
Then I find the box like 3 years later, but not the CD key.
Yeah, it's definitely a demanding game. I couldn't run it not cut-down until I got my i5 quad core and a HD5870.

Supreme Commander 2 is neither a shitty game or a "cut down version" of Supreme Commander 1. Yes, they removed the tedious power/mass management and got rid of Tiers. But they also added extensive research trees and some really awesome special structures. Just because it's different doesn't make it a bad game. My friends and I played the shit out of SupCom 1 and FA, and when SupCom 2 came out we thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
This was completely out of the blue. Not at all unwelcome though.
My question, is FA stand-alone?
Yes, FA is standalone.

Yes, SC2 IS a shitty cut down version of SC1. SC2 gets rid entirely of what the first game was meant to be: an epic strategy game. SC2 is like a crippled version of Command and Conquer, but more terrible.
The only reason SC2 was made is because the developers got too many complaints from whiny players that the game took too long to play, so they dumbed it down, slapped a $50 pricetag on it and re-released it.
Here are some of the reasons SC2 is terrible:
- Many of the higher-tech units are replaced with lackluster units that are SUPER weak and can be destroyed in a heartbeat if you don't babysit them constantly.
- Ocean warfare is severely crippled by making them into an impassible abyss, even near the beach. Ocean battles are now completely dominated by boats and air units (I didn't see a single submarine if they still exist) and all units that used to be able to move along the ocean floor have been removed or changed so that ocean travel is no longer possible.
- All maps are about 25% smaller or worse, with no option to have a huge world to fight on anymore, other than custom maps.
I won't even go into the tech system, it was a poorly thought out pile of crap that fails miserably at replacing the sensible tiered system, and the mass/power systems.
If you like playing a stripped down version of an epic game because you don't have the time, SC2 is for you, but like many other people, I will forever hate SC2 for what it is.
Supreme Commander (and FC) is still my favorite RTS to this day, especially when you get some of the of the better unit pack mods.
Although I already have the box copies, so I'll wait for them to go on sale.
Since I own the boxed version of the game, could I find the CD-Key and register it to steam and get steam download capability?
EDIT: That is, if having it on steam includes an ingame server browser instead of that damn website.
DOUBLEEDIT: Even still though, if it weren't, downloading it would probably be worth it considering the massive amount of gradual patches that those guys did for it.

Didn't work for me, so I'm assuming no.

Nope, only SC2 keys.
Wow. Took them long enough.

Trying saying that with a straight face about Command & Conquer 4.
SC2 is pretty good, didn't keep me hooked as I have many games to play but someday I'll give it another go.

I bought it for around $5 on sale. NEVER buy things unless they're on sale.
NEVER.
Total Annihilation fanboy for life. I need to get Supreme Commander eventually...hope my laptop can run it.
I will always remember that long month of me mastering the god damn resource mechanic. And then the next month getting strategy down. And then the next month actually getting good enough to play online.
[editline]28th September 2011[/editline]
Was worth it though
Best strategy games I know. Buy them, [del]even[/del] especially if you already played SupCom 2.
Edit:
Oh, didn't see the price.
What the fuck! Why are they so expensive? I bought SupCom+SupCom FA for 10€ from Amazon 1-2 years ago.
I liked SC2 ): Then again, I did get it for a really cheap price.
