Russia has been a 'threat' all through the 60s, 70s and 80s and was militarily able to take on the US, they didn't though. Guess what, neither will China. Everyone has far too much to lose by going into an all out war. It just won't happen.

Thanks to advances in digital technologies over the past half century the world's pretty damn unified, and land isn't as much as an issue as it used to be because you don't necessarily need land anymore thanks to trade (some countries import the majority of their food already).
