• China's rise raises Australia war fears
Australia would need to significantly boost defence spending and expand its armed forces to ensure its security against the likelihood of a rising China challenging the United States, a leading strategic thinker warned yesterday. Speaking to an audience of senior Government officials, defence contractors and lawyers at a forum sponsored by the law firm Deacons, Australian National University strategic studies professor Hugh White said the Rudd Government's forthcoming Defence white paper needed to address fundamental strategic challenges. Professor White said the deep question was how China's economic rise would change the strategic balance in the Asia-Pacific region and it was hard to escape the conclusion that the United States would lose primacy, or that primacy would be contested. ''This has immense implications for Australia,'' Professor White said. ''The eclipse of Western maritime primacy in Asia [will be] a very big event in our national history. ''If United States primacy fades, we will face higher risks of conflict with a major Asian power either in the company of the United States or alone.''
Source: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/chinas-rise-raises-australia-war-fears/1347273.aspx :ohdear: [editline]09:31PM[/editline] [sp]I keep imagining Tomrrow, When The War Began is going to become based on a true story in the coming months[/sp]
And risk a world war again, you mad?
That sounds fucking stupid. China relies far too much on import/exports to back out, and attacking a nation would be economic and militaristic suicide. Even North Korea would join in with their shitty nukes.
We can take em
Well, I for one welcome our new eternal glorious overlords
I wouldn't doubt china they are under a communist rule and they always want more land. So all we can do is watch and see. But I bet that Nuclear warheads will be a deterrent but I doubt anyone would.
The war has been coming for what, 50 years now? If it's not one threat it's another and each time we're told this one is the real enemy, give me a break. It's all fearmongering.
Except China now is an actual challenge to the US economically, it wasn't back then.
Russia has been a 'threat' all through the 60s, 70s and 80s and was militarily able to take on the US, they didn't though. Guess what, neither will China. Everyone has far too much to lose by going into an all out war. It just won't happen.
I thought we as a species were past the days of "hurr durr lets invade them for the sheer hell of it"?
A war will break out in the next what? 10 to 20 years
chuck em the filthy coon land (aka ALL of western aus, and 9/10ths of south and north australia) that we gave to abo's. Chinese immigrants account for more of the population than native abo's. That will solve this problem
Ok be right back reversing a hundred years of civil rights protesting to appease the great chinese overlords

Ok I am dumb right know but I just woke up don't mock me!:saddowns:
Are you retarded
It was a mere sarcastic remark to an above reply. A reply which stated the Chinese are after more land for their 'communist' country. If i have not specified my intentions in THIS post, i am deeply apologetic. I hope the use of non-laymen terms now may quell the anguish you seemed to built up so quickly. Cheers.
native abo's.
Sorry I didn't think there were any foreign aboriginies. But anyways, I doubt China would attack, as pulpedfiction said, fearmongering. It's all the media does people *Cough* swine flu *cough*
Also I looked it up they are communist FUUUU Ninja
Just hide in the outback :v:

The government is communist but they've adopted a very capitalist stance on their economy/business. Means nothing.
Also I looked it up they are communist FUUUU Ninja
Stop
Let us all huddle around the campfire and sing Coombaya til the cow's come home. Seeing as it would most likely derail the Chinese governments relations with the west should they invade us, they will suffer in their jocks.
Slow news day, so typical Australian media then go on to report bullshit. China is not a threat to Australia.
You people fail to realise that the world's settled into a very stable niche at the moment. Thanks to advances in digital technologies over the past half century the world's pretty damn unified, and land isn't as much as an issue as it used to be because you don't necessarily need land anymore thanks to trade (some countries import the majority of their food already). You people act as if every world leader is sitting with a dagger in his or her teeth going "FOR KING AND COUNTRY". They're not.
Slow news day, so typical Australian media then go on to report bullshit. "a leading strategic thinker warned yesterday.". Let me see, I'm a strategic thinker.
"Hey, nothing's probably going to happen" "OH MY GOD WHY DO WE PAY YOU THIS IS STUPID. You're fired."

"Hey, I'm going to play off America's fears of not being the centre of the world any more and couple them with the Tall Poppy syndrome of Australia. The Asians are going to kill us." "Holy shit! He's right! Let's interview him a bunch and pay him lots of money and shit!"
:geno:
Likely? No. Possible? Definitely.
China is no physical threat to anyone. When was the last time they attacked another country to expand its land? The last time China used its navy to attack someone else was 500 years ago (Somalia pirates not counted.) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article5400661.ece
