Hideo Kojima explained its link to MGS 5: The Phantom Pain by stating: “The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way. There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential. As such, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.”
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be releasing on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The boxed PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will retail at £29.99, while the digital versions will retail for £19.99. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One digital versions will retail for £29.99.
Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes will see Big Boss carrying out a rescue mission in a Cuban prison camp and will ultimately bridge into the events of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This announcement should sort of confirm that fans should not expect The Phantom Pain until late 2015.
Update: North American prices will be $19.99 for digital versions and $29.99 for boxed.
Damn, that's cheap. Wonder how long it'll be at that price.
Kids come running for the great taste of freshly Ground Zeros
The way it's described almost makes you think it will be just that prison camp and not much more. Maybe that's why it's so cheap?

Well, judging from the trailers and what gameplay we've seen, it's safe to assume that shit goes south just after the prison camp.
Somebody from the camp (Paz?) has a tracker in them, which they disocver on their way back to mother base. By that time, Skullface knows where Motherbase is and has attacked it.
No idea how or when after the attack, but Big Boss goes in to the coma. That's where TFP begins.

It's supposed to be a prologue, like the Tanker/Virtuous missions from MGS2/3.
£10 more for next-gen, and it's digital only. I can understand a price increase for next-gen but the digital only part seems stupid.
I'm excited, I hope the micromanagement from Peace Walker is still in somewhat.

There has been word of micromanagement of a base, but I'm pretty sure that it will be in the Phantom Pain chapter, so won't come with the Ground Zeroes release.
I'm interested in how this will work though. I hope the Ground Zeroes isn't as short as the prologues of other MGS games for that price, but I'm cautiously optimistic.
It'll probably be the prison camp and a little more.
Just worrying that they might have a long gap between GZ and TPP. Also the issue of no PC version.

Indeed, if GZ is released on spring 2014 and TPP on late 2015. There's at least a year and a half gap between them, doesn't really make sense why they would release it so early.

A year and a half as a guess. To me that feels way too long, especially if they leave the end of GZ on a cliffhanger.
I wonder how big the differences between the current and next gen versions are.
pisses me off so much when developers make something on 4+ different platforms and still don't release it on PC.

"Should sort of" basically means they are predicting late 2015 but to be honest that would be massively foolish on Konami's part.

Oh hell, that's way too long from a prologue to the final product.
I thought there was serious consideration of mgs5 being released on pc? was that ever discounted?

It was very lightly commented on by Kojima a few times, but there was never anything concrete.
Pretty nice, but dont expect a long game, just a bridge between Peace Walker and MGS5
I thought there was serious consideration of mgs5 being released on pc? was that ever discounted?
no, kojima was just saying that PC wasn't ruled out. he said it in japanese, so a lot of really bad translations came out, and journalists ran with false quotes such as ''we are making it (the PC version)'' when he was actually saying ''we're making it on a PC'' meaning using computers to design the game. if a PC version does happen it's going to be at a much later date.
the solution is that everyone needs to purchase mgr:r on pc on its release to convince them to do it then.

Already planning to, they just need to announce the release date.
I'm still shocked that Sony let MG slip out of exclusivity.
I'm really excited for this, I wasn't expecting it to come Ground Zeroes to come this soon.

Metal Gear wasn't even their franchise in the first place, Metal Gear 1 and 2 were on the MSX (A Japanese Microsoft console)

I'm well aware thank you.
-snip double post-
I'm gonna play the shit out of it for that year and a half until The Phantom Pain.
2015 until PP? shit, I don't know where I'll be in life then
Well 2013 won't be that bad.
And it'll still be out before HL3
there will probably be a release with both of them
Mgs5 subdodadodance
