Rainbow Six: Siege Closed Alpha Announcement - PC Only!

This game looks like it could turn out really goddamn good. They're still only in the Alpha stage which tells me they're taking their time with it. It's also clear it's being marketed at a Tactical Shooter, not just another FPS so hopefully they stay true to that and bring some glory back to the Tom Clancy brand.

Also happy to see it's PC only which tells me they're actually doing this to improve their game and not just doing it for advertising.
That sounds pretty hype. I'm curious as to the amount of maps in the game, so far we've only seen the House but that alone seems to offer a great amount of replayability but I'd be lying if I said I couldn't wait to be storming high-end offices with all glass windows and the like. Banks! This game seems to unintentionally be a counter-heist and I'm all over that shit.
I'm actually excited for this. It's just such a shame that it's published by Ubisoft.
Ubisoft this is your final, FINAL last chance. Don't blow it.
Looks like the studio is pretty pumped up and excited to work on this game, might turn out well.
Ah, dang, I'm not in one of the eligible countries. Not like I could run it, either:
Minimum Rainbow Six Siege Closed Alpha PC Requirements:
OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, x64
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8120 Eight-Core
CPU Speed: 3.3 GHz (Recommended), 2.6 GHz (Minimum)
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 / R9 280 X
VRAM: 2 GB
Note: These specs are the ones required for Alpha testing and are not the final PC specs. We are still working on optimizing the game and the launch specs will be lower than the Alpha specs.
I have a 660ti so that's me out the running.
I could run this perfectly fine. I've always loved playing Rainbow Six, but had a better passion for SWAT.
I doubt I'll get in, but good luck to those who tried.

I thought they did fibe with the newest far cry

Oh shit. I dont even make the GPU minimums anymore and barely squeak by the CPU. I dont know if their optimizing could save this for me.
Signed up because the Rainbow Six series had some of my favorite shooter games growing up, shame I haven't played any since around 2010.
If I don't get in I might have to go buy Rainbow Six Vegas 1/2, cause now im hankering for some (more recent) Rainbow Six
Rogue Spear, Co-op Terrorist Hunt, 747 map. Gooooood times. Raven Shield was great, too. The sound effects at the time (And still, really) were WAY ahead of ANYTHING. Then every Rainbow 6 related title since has sucked.
And Ubisoft's been real shit tier lately. They've had gold in their hands several times last year and they pissed it away with just dumb ass decisions. So I'm not too optimistic about this. It's their money, after all, and we know what happens when a large publisher's money is on the line

Can't say I'm too excited about this either. The Vegas games were absolutely atrocious R6 titles, and the other Tom Clancy games have been terrible as well. I really want this to be good, but after seeing the (admittedly) early gameplay footage of Siege, I'm not filled with confidence. It didn't look like the players were nauseatingly concerned about their well being, looked very Hollywood.
I'm bummed that upcoming games can't run on my 7850. Well I guess a midrange card from 3 years ago wasn't going to last me forever

Using the same card. It's surprising how well it's held up, and still holds up, for what it cost
I have a 960 but a I7-920 barely overclocked.

Mediocre story and most of it was just a rehash of Farcry 3. Not bad by any means, but not redeeming.

Last chance for what? People will still buy their games.
I got into the closed alpha too, pretty excited. Also happy about no NDA.

Just made a thread in GDD, http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1459499&p=47468230#post47468230
I really don't get the hate for Vegas and Vegas 2. They're not Raven Shield, sure, but they never meant to be. The MP was a lot of fun and Terrorist Hunt was sort of boring but a silly way to make mountains of bodies. Sure, the singleplayer suffered, but I would almost never base a R6 game off of SP.
Fuckin uplay mate. God

The only R6 that sucked was Lockdown, and that was basically a corridor shooter. The Vegas games were meant as an experiment with team AI which worked pretty well, especially in Vegas 2, and the multiplayer was great.

I am not impressed by these type of videos but the fact that they are implying that they are more self-aware and self-conscious about making game that pleases fans of the series is a turn for the better from that absolutely fucking terrible e3 trailer where everything was scripted and laughably out of touch with how players interact with each other when they play online games.
What time exactly does the Alpha begin?
Hearing from people who have played the game, it's turning out a bit like Watch Dogs. Ubisoft get a cool idea, show an awesome E3 trailer, then ruin it by putting it through their development template.

It's a closed alpha playtest in a controlled environment for the purposes of gameplay and network stability. Most features are locked or non existent in alpha.
