Lionsgate, the studio behind the monster-hit big-screen adaptations of author Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series, has long considered extending the life of the series with new, real-world attractions. And according to a recent report in the New York Times, the studio now is planning topopulate new theme parks around the world with attractions spawned not only from The Hunger Games, but alsosuch franchises as Twilight, Divergent, and the Step Up films.
The attractions, which will be run by independent companies, will follow on the heels of the upcoming Hunger Games traveling stage show coming in 2016.
In the U.S., the plan is to have several of its franchises — including Step Up and even Now You See Me — highlighted in a $265 million “entertainment destination” outside Atlanta called Avatron Smart Park, which is scheduled to open in 2019; plans also include several unrelated hotels and nightclubs, among other attractions.
In the more near-term, construction is well underway at a park in United Arab Emirates, called Motiongate, which is due to open next year. It will be worth the long plane ride for some The Hunger Games fans: When it opens, Motiongate will feature a mini-recreation of Katniss’ poor mining town home of District 12 (including Peeta’s bakery and The Hob), a roller coaster designed like The Capitol’s fancy bullet trains, and even a motion simulator that “flies” visitors over Panem. (Another park, scheduled for a 2018 open, is in development in China.)
Give me SAW "Escape the room" games.
Give me them and give them to me yesterday.
This seems... odd.
I can't foresee making theme park attractions based on "Step Up" that isn't just an arcade full of DDR machines.

Hard pass
Besides Dredd they've seriously gone to shit the last few years so it's no surprise they bank on the highest grossing franchises.
Never got the hype of the hunger games. Just seemed to me like a shitty version of battle royale.
Couldn't pick a group of worse movies to base a theme park after.
"Introducing the new theme park based on the movies 'Schindler's List' and 'The boy in the striped pajamas'!"
Also the fact that one dude was a fucking baker in a settinf that has food extremely scarce is so damn laughable.

Personally what I found interesting about it was the weird dystopian world it was set in.
So, Forrest Gump was a legitimate good movie/book and all it gets is a restaurant in Times Square(Bubba Gump Shrimp, never eaten there myself FTR), while trash movies/books get their own amusement parks?
Guess it makes sense. If you are the age group for The Hunger Games, odds are you'd actually waste money to go to an amusement park based on it.
That doesn't sound profitable at all.

Not just there, on my trip to the USA last summer I've like 3 of those restaurants, I wouldn't go as far as to say that they are everywhere but they are definitely not a one-off
I will petition this park if they don't refer to the Twilight-themed area as the Twilight Zone.
I couldn't see how a Hunger Games park would work, or even a Twilight park as well. They don't seem like places that'd get rides.

It's going to be insanely profitable for the next couple years. After the hype of those franchises die and the fans grow up, the park will be abandoned unless they adapt it to fit whatever hit, new teen movies they produce at the time. Remember guys, just because we don't like doesn't make it any less popular with other groups.
YEAH lets go to the dystopian totalitarian dictatorship on our vacation that sounds FUN

i wouldn't call the hunger games trash. i hear the last 2 were crap (haven't seen them) but the first is alright and fairly unique for a blockbuster while the second is legitimately a great film

it's a clone of Battle Royale with 90% more teen bullshit love triangles
Collins even copied the shitty Battle Royale sequel (movie) with the whole uprising thing

i know they're not original, but that doesn't stop me thinking that if every shitty teenage flick was on the same level as the hunger games, i'd complain about them a lot less
Lol 'Cube' came to mind

Me and a friend got bored a good while back and watched the second movie cause nothing better to do. Was fucking garbage.
A hunger games themed lazer tag arena could be pretty damn cool

a battle royale themed lazer tag would be much more enjoyable
Divergent was OK, pretty hyped about the Hunger Games thing though.

I dunno if it was just the excitement of being the first movie I watched without subs and understood what was going on (apart from English movies of course) but that movie was great.
