So.. it's going to have Diablo-style always on DRM, since we all know EA never shuts down servers.
But...
With a required Internet connection to play, some might be worried that SimCity will run into Diablo III style server problems at launch. The developers are adamant that they'll be putting backstops in place to prevent those kind of day one issues, but said that if it becomes a problem they could briefly allow people to play offline while things get fixed. That said, the game is designed to be played in that persistent, multiplayer world, so players won't be able to gleefully destroy a city and then go back to an earlier save file as if nothing ever happened, for instance.
Have they even fucking played SimCity? Seriously, that was half the fun.
NOPE.
If this stays, I'm not buying it.
i can't wait to not buy this game
i actually had hope for a ea title for once
why the fuck would simcity have always online drm
i cant even grasp that
i will never understand
It's like they don't even have meetings about things anymore.

because your obviously going to be playing with your friends
right
edit: dunno why im getting zings but ok.
WOW
i never played simcity before, but i did wanna play this
Great job EA, for having something ruin a fucking game i actually wanted to try out
I sincerely hope they reconsider.
They're trying to reboot a series that quite frankly declined (Societies), and they're going to ruin it with their retarded DRM.
Oh you, EA.
Have to apply a crack to make a game even playable on my unreliable connection, good going EA.
SEE! This is what I meant!
This is what we should expect from an EA game!
A DRM. An always online DRM even for a single player.
No mod support, overprice DLC coming up next.
Yeah EA, no more.
My wallet is staying close from now on
I'll keep my SimCity 4, thanks. Unless you all would like to reconsider.
Fuck.
I said it before, I'll say it again.
EA doesn't give two shits about the consumer. They're only out for 100% profit, preventing the loss of a single penny.
The worst part is?
There's a damned well high enough number of consumers who let them do this and give in.
Time to stick to Sim City 4.
...Anyone know any modding websites?

because piracy is bad!
sadly this will greatly increase the piracy issues.
it's like they want to treat everyone else like children.
Here's what you guys do. You buy it legally and then just crack it so that it doesn't need the servers.
Dev's get money, you get what you want from it.
I wonder how long it's going to take devs to realize that they'd sell more if they didn't have retarded DRM that punishes people who don't pirate the game

They think DRMs will make piracy impossible. Adds about a minute of challenge for them.
It's funny because now MORE people will pirate it.

The problem with that is, is the companies then continue to think it's alright.
That said, I doubt it'd change their mind regardless.
I did say I didn't want to buy EA anymore, but Sim City looked too good. I don't know anymore.

Where was this reaction to Diablo 3 when Blizzard did even worse than this. To crack Diablo 3 you would literally need to create a server emulator comparable to WoW. At least SC iwill let you play offline (And this creates an opportunity for a crack).

But so do EA which will give them the idea that this sort of behavior is alright and acceptable.
I'm saving my money.

I guess this is just worse for people because Simcity is primarily known as a Single player game, which makes this seem that much more ludicrous.
I don't think the problem is more people will pirate the game, it that DRM is unnecessary in the first place. Pirates will still pirate, and customers will ether suffer or crack the game in protest.
Welp, I actually was going to buy this.
Did they actually say that you can't save and reload your game? I know there's a single player, but I haven't heard anything about how save games work. This just sounds like speculation by the article.
This single handed-ly made me now not buy this game. I was so hyped for it too
My heart has sunk to the core of the Earth and back.
