• I need more power in my band.

I have recently created a band with a few other guys in my school. I wanted it to be a metal band that mainly played new wave stuff and I said this while forming it. Unfortunately the guitarist that I had has now proclaimed that he would be the lead singer even though he wasn't a good singer and had brought his friend along to play guitar, I allowed this at first because I thought that he'd keep playing guitar (he's a good guitarist) but he has dropped that and still insists that he's a good singer. Today I had the set list he decided we'd play at the next gig, I puked when I saw a busted song on it and the other songs weren't much better (From Hair Metal to Rod Stewart). Please Dr Facepunch I need advise. Should I carry on trying to get a few songs I like on the set list or would it be easier just to quit?
Quit i'd say, much better to create a band with close friends or people who you can get on with well, otherwise your band will probably fail.
I do get on with all the members of the band at that is my problem, I like being with them I just don't like the direction the band is going in.
Tell them, see what they think
Are you literally the most skilled or is it an ideas guy situation? If you really think it's turning to shit there's nothing wrong with quitting your own band.
more power? easy! bigger amps.

There is a little competition to have me as a bassist, but the other band play much the same stuff and even more poppy songs. I don't know if I could find enough other people who like the same sort of music as me to make a band though. [editline]3rd November 2010[/editline] Should I go solo
Should I go solo
Go Squarepusher
If you don't like the music quit. Better to not be in a band than to play stuff you really don't enjoy.
The best way is to find some like minded people who are interested in the same thing you are. It can't work any other way. Try creigslist.
Leave the band. But before doing so remember to beat the living shit out of him.
start paying your electricity bills :downs:
do what my friend's guitar teacher's band's bassist(wow that was a mouthful) did, play one song at the next gig and walk off, refusing to play any more.

If you're really good, you'll be able to pull of the bass jam and everyone will ignore the actual band.
do it Spinal Tap style. throw your shot down and storm off stage

The only way anything will change is if you bring it up.
Yeah, I point blank refuse to learn a busted song. I'll learn the rest of the songs but when that song comes along then I'll do a bass solo instead.
Just to update, I've been kicked out of the band because I refused to learn 8 songs during my mock exams.
Give em' some modelling clay

Use power chords! :downs:
