a few days ago, our cable modem's power adapter got wet to the point of being broken. i had this idea of replacing the damaged adapter with another one from a different modem we had. the thing is, while i honestly dont know shit about circuits and shit, i think i might've irreparably screwed up my modem; my internet has been slow as fuck as of late. i checked and compared the adapters' specs, and i noticed a pretty huge(?) difference in voltage output (or something like that), like the original one was outputting at 9 volts and the replacement, 5V. did I fry my router or what? shit i cant stand my connection speed anymore, even facebook sometimes wont load at all p.s. pardon my ignorance
You definitely could have messed something up, the only way to know is to try a new modem and if the speeds improve, problem solved. If a new modem doesn't solve the issue, there's something up with your ISP and everything was just a coincidence. Definitely would get the correct power adapter for you modem though asap.

Its no wonder that its working shitty. Just get a 9v adapter with at least the same amperage as the original. And you will be fine.
