• Bring sub-boards back to the top

It angers me that all the sub-boards where brought to the bottom of the page. This essentially hides them. The saying "out of sight, out of mind" holds true to this very well. I mainly stay in GD, and every day I went to the "In The News" section. Now that "In The News" is at the bottom of the page, I tend to forget about it and rarely go there now. I feel this holds true with other sub-boards as well too. I thought it was an error when it was first done, which is why I never made a big deal about it. I thought it was going to be fixed in a day or two. But it hasn't. It looks like it was either an intended change, or it was an accident that no one ever bothered to fix. Whatever the reason is, I feel sub-boards need to be brought back to the top.
Yeah. Them being at the bottom is a good idea but it's a major usability killer in the end. They're at the top by default because you read from top to bottom and you don't scroll to the end of the page when checking for new posts.
get that morph's plugin for facepunch to bring them back on top again

I've got a greasemonkey script that does this: "UnAustralianPunch".
I thought moving them to the bottom was a stupid idea.
I've got a greasemonkey script that does this: "UnAustralianPunch".
I've been using this, works fine. But It should be there normally without a script :saddowns:
Why is your avatar eating it's hand?
because it's retarded
hide them i don't want your interests near my precious top of the page
Top is better. And I shouldnt be using a script to see the forum in his best forum.
I've been using this, works fine. But It should be there normally without a script :saddowns:
I agree. We shouldn't have to hack together and use an alternative solution for something that should have not been done.
Maybe if you get enough support for moving them back to the top then Garry or Compwhizii will make where they appear optional or something. That shouldn't be too hard should it?
I just click In the News from the home page
for the fellows who are annoyed by the change:
unsafeWindow.$("table.forums").insertBefore("#above_threadlist");
one line greasemonkey script. make the script point to http://www.facepunch.com/forums/* and it should work!
I honestly didn't even notice that it moved because I always click on it from the home page. I'd like it to go back up though.
I bet this thread will be closed any moment like all the others...
Why was it changed?
get that morph's plugin for facepunch to bring them back on top again
Or just put them back because the forum is for the users and the users highly prefer it according to the poll.
Yeah, I completely forget about the sub boards sometimes because of this.
Why was it changed?
Garry changed it to make room for more forums. When you have a large amount of subforums such as the H+S forum, you have nearly a full page of subforums to scroll past before you reach the threads. http://www.facepunch.com/forums/228-Hardware-and-Software
I just open all of the subforums I need in tabs in the background, but it's still fucking retarded.
The extra ones could be put in another set of forums, or put in a separate list called Sub-Forums that you click that takes you to a page with all of those.

How about an option in our user control panel to select where we want the sub forums to appear, top or bottom? Top should be default.
[img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/0254f23049411f4dc7c22543ecf421fe.png[/img_thumb] Nope.
How about yes? That was an indirect quote of what Garry said in the 'ask us about the forums' thread.
How about an option in our user control panel to select where we want the sub forums to appear, top or bottom? Top should be default.
This makes more sense, only problem is you have to get Campwhimsical to code it.
I didn't even know this happened. I was wondering where the GD>ITN was at
How about yes? That was an indirect quote of what Garry said in the 'ask us about the forums' thread.
Specifically in these two posts.
Because now you don't have to scroll past subforums to see the threads. Deal with it.

If you want to go to subforums you usually click the link on the front page anyway. This way we can add as many subforums as we want, without worrying about people having to scroll past them all every time they open the main forum.
I always browse what forum I want to go to from the home page so it doesn't really affect me.
