Do you like social networking sites having control over your information? Don't you love how you can't add or fix features on them? If your answer to any of those is no, you may want to try Diaspora. I'm really not good at writing content, but here's a list of things Diaspora offers: - Decentralization Rather than one server like Facebook or Google+, Diaspora is made of servers hosted by different people all over the world. You could even host one, if you're that scared of the Illuminati stealing your porn. - Open Source You can fix bugs and add features, like any gentleman would, to share and make the web a better place. (Also to get sweet respect.) Right now, some dudes decided to make chatting exist for Diaspora, simply because they wanted to. - Meet new people In Diaspora you can use read tags, which helps you find new friends with the same interests. Facebook and Google+ seem to be more about adding people you already know. - Nobody uses it yet Diaspora is new to the Internet compared to Facebook and Google+, so the place is dominated mostly by programmers and linux users. You could join in and become a hipster too! If that hasn't convinced you, nothing will. Or you can join a Diaspora server. Either way, discuss Diaspora here.
Huh. Never heard of this. Pretty neat. Kinda sad that it'll never be as big as Facebook, and if it ever does (and it won't) it would die just like Google+.

As long as somebody wants it to exist, they'll probably have a server up. Eventually you'll even be able to move your profile and content between servers, which can help this.
This is what I think of whenever I hear about a new social network thing. Not exactly the same with these kinds of things since there's only really two standards: Facebook and Twitter, but regardless.
I signed up.
This looks almost exactly like Google+ http://i.imgur.com/554xX.png http://i.imgur.com/ULxS7.png

I wonder if there is an imaginary social network. Basically, it is just on your computer, but it has generated friends. Huh.

People don't write completely bug-free code? Also, that's from 2010. Tons of fixes have been pushed in to the codebase.
