Where American Stupidity continues to thrive: Meet the sue-happy jobless woman! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8180806.stm
Trina Thompson, 27, filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court. She is seeking to recover $70,000 (£42,000) she spent on tuition to get her information technology degree. Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank said Ms Thompson's lawsuit was "completely without merit". The ex-student, who received her degree in April, says the college's Office of Career Advancement did not provide her with the leads and career advice it had promised. "They have not tried hard enough to help me," she wrote about the college in her lawsuit. Her mother, Carol, said her daughter was "very angry at her situation" having "put all her faith" in her college. With her student loans coming due, the family would be saddled with more debt, the graduate's mother added. Monroe insists it helps its graduates find jobs. "The college prides itself on the excellent career-development support that we provide to each of our students, and this case does not deserve further consideration," its spokesman said.
What a tool. Was it this woman?
:bravo: "I tried to get a job during a recession and it's not worked out SUE SUE SUE SUE"
"They have not tried hard enough to help me," she wrote about the college in her lawsuit.
How about you try hard to help yourself, dumbass. College isn't a free ticket to a job, it's nothing more than credentials you use to get into the interview, and an opportunity to learn deep knowledge in the field you study. It's not there to do all the work for you if you turn in your homework. Obviously you don't want to go to a college that has very low job placement rates though, that generally means the schools degree program isn't very credible to employers.
:bravo: "I tried to get a job during a recession and it's not worked out SUE SUE SUE SUE"
That's not what she's pissed about. She's pissed because the college prides itself on having an excellent career advice service, which she was apparently not given access to.
still, imagine basically wasting 70 thousand dollars on something that hasn't profited you much, or at all. wouldn't be nice.
still, imagine basically wasting 70 thousand dollars on something that hasn't profited you much, or at all. wouldn't be nice.
That's a risk you take.
Maybe she should spend more time looking for a job and less time being a rude ungrateful bitch.
That's not what she's pissed about. She's pissed because the college prides itself on having an excellent career advice service, which she was apparently not given access to.
They can't exactly give advice on a job which isn't there.
I can certainly sympathize, colleges like to sell themselves as an easy ticket to a good job, but most graduates just seem to wind up with a worthless degree and tens of thousands of dollars in debt. They'll either throw the case out or settle quietly out of court, no judge in the country would establish this as a precedent.
I'm sure it was more an issue with her. Did she expect the college to do everything for her? I am guessing it is her fault she didn't get any jobs due to laziness, and she is just blaming it on the college.
I agree with her decision to sue them. They're required to find her a job.
God-motherfucking-dammit. I hate frivolous lawsuits. They clog the legal system and block good lawsuits.
You people didn't read the news, very few colleges have a complete guarantee to put you into a job after you've taken their college. Not all colleges, but a few such as Monroe do go out of their way to get you a career. If they don't? Then you didn't get what you paid for.
Typical behavior, trying to get a quick buck with suing, commonly done in USA.

all she's asking for is her tuition back? that's relieving.
That's a risk you take.
of course it is, i'm not saying she should have sued them, i'm just saying it would be a bummer to lose all that money, fuck sake.
How is she getting the money to sue?
what a tool. Was it this woman?
yes. SANTA CRUZ STAND UPPP
of course it is, i'm not saying she should have sued them, i'm just saying it would be a bummer to lose all that money, fuck sake.
Alright, alright, chill out.
College =/= a job It only raises your chances.
Some of you are just ignorant. She is taking the college to court because the claimed that after her degree is complete they will help get her a job. LOTS of colleges do this, it is a incentive for people go to that college. Some even claim right after graduation you will have a job. I would love to see how you guys would do with 70 thousand dollars of debt. And it isn't like she is going crazy and filing a lawsuit for millions of dollars. She just want her tuition back seeing as they falsely advertised.
Monroe College? I'm guessing it's pretty shitty.

Saying you will have a job is just to motivate, there's nothing wrong with that, just this lady is being a complete idiot trying to get money out of a college. Also, doesn't she also have uni after college?
