Microsoft has confirmed that the upgrade edition of Windows 8 will cost just £24.99 in the UK, after an originally-claimed launch price of £39.99 was blamed on a miscommunication.
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2012/08/30/ms-win8-upgrade/1
Heh, sure, miscommunication.
Miscommunication or not, glad they fixed it.
Still not buying it, just because the horrid Metro integration bugs me so much.
I don't feel the need to upgrade from 7 at all.
but you can upgrade to Linux for free!
You would have to pay me to upgrade to windows 8
Well that sounds reasonable, but I'm going to wait and see what the internet thinks of it before I use it
You would have to pay me to downgrade to windows 8
Fixed. :v:
Well that sounds reasonable, but I'm going to wait and see what the internet thinks of it before I use it
Or you could install the RP and try it for yourself?
And here comes another metro shitstorm.
I am still using KDE 3.5.10 - the last KDE 3.5 release, which is like 4 years old - because KDE 4 is a disaster in my opinion. I am stuck up even for Linux standard :v:
"HURR MISSING START MENU, METRO REPLACES THE DESKTOP, DURRRRRR." "DAE THINK MICROSOFT ARE LITERALLY HITLER?"
it's obvious that we know more than microsoft, that spent millions of dollars on research, ever will.
it's obvious that we know more than microsoft, that spent millions of dollars on research, ever will.
From what I've seen of it, it's got some annoying quirks that were probably overlooked, but I'm optimistic about what it'll be after it's been released for a while.
I notice how facepunch loves to say all kinds of shitty things about Microsoft, but it turns out a lot of what you guys bitch about are just rumors.
it's obvious that we know more than microsoft, that spent millions of dollars on research, ever will.
Considering their position on PC OS market, they can easily afford to prioritize other things than happiness of their customers. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline] If there wasn't a side interest, it would be simply optional.
it's obvious that we know more than microsoft, that spent millions of dollars on research, ever will.
Well sometimes companies sacrifice practicality for design because design sells more than practicality, which seems to be the problem this time around. A clunkier but prettier workflow. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline] But I bet it's fantastic for tablets.

It's just different at some points, and that's really it.
I thought it was supposed to be £14.99? £24.99 is about what I paid for my 7 Pro Student license upgrade. I'll hold off till SP1.
Haven't had compatibility problems either. Mergebreak :v:
Haven't had compatibility problems either. Mergebreak :v:
Windows 8 killed your automerge and broke your babies.
Microsoft didn't have an option to disable the start menu on Windows 95 and go back to the windows 3.1 Program manager either. Those bastards!
What does that have to do with anything? The Windows 95 UI was an intelligent design.
Microsoft didn't have an option to disable the start menu on Windows 95 and go back to the windows 3.1 Program manager either. Those bastards!
How many people asked for that?
What does that have to do with anything? The Windows 95 UI was an intelligent design.
And it was decided that it was the same way as with Windows 8 - extensive testing. I'm sure people bitched about Windows 95 as well, but I think we can all agree on that the change was for the better - I think it'll be like that with Windows 8.
If Gabe said it's bad, that's enough for me. [editline]31st August 2012[/editline] :v:

Windows 95 was change for the better and it's UI wasn't released on a touch screen device first. All the millions of dollars of research didn't saving Microsoft from Windows Vista. They should just make a separate Windows for tablets. If you really believe MS won't put a proper start-menu in Windows 8, stop arguing that metro is better and move on. You've got nothing to worry about.
How many people asked for that?
fuckloads [editline]30th August 2012[/editline]
Stop arguing it's change for the better, a giant full screen mobile phone UI isn't change for the better let me tell you. Hey hey guys did you know that- guys did you know that the metro UI is only for the start menu and you still have a desktop? Since it really seems that most people don't know this.
Hey hey guys did you know that- guys did you know that the metro UI is only for the start menu and you still have a desktop? Since it really seems that most people don't know this.
But it means we have to make a short cut for every program.
But it means we have to make a short cut for every program.
why does nobody get this you know when you click start that little thing that pops up and you can click stuff or type stuff well now it takes up the whole screen, so you can click or type even more stuff!!!
