I am thinking about getting the BenQ XL2410 which would be a rather large upgrade over my Syncmaster 205bw from 2006. It would seem like a rather large upgrade from 6ms to 2ms response time, and from 60 to 120 hertz. The monitor is pretty expensive, but it's the only 24" monitor with those specs. I just want to ask how big will the difference be from 6 to 2ms response time and from 60 to 120hertz. I searched for it and people say it's a huge difference, especially for fps games. What do you say?
I just want to ask how big will the difference be from 6 to 2ms response time ...
You won't notice it. If the response time is like 12ms or more, you would notice some so called "ghosting" on your monitor when a high contrasted objected is moving. Example: black block moves fast over a fully white background. You'd bscly see some blurring on the edges.
...from 60 to 120hertz
That's what you need for 3D. 60hertz x2 (1 picture at a time for each eye) = 120hertz Hope this helps.
120Hz is great, I'm using ASUS's 3D monitor and you can really notice the difference above 60 FPS. I'd recommend the Nvidia 3D vision kit highly of you have a compatible Nvidia card and you don't have problems with 3D :v:
I am not going to use 3D, I just want to know if I will notice a difference.

I'll buy it
That's completely different, 120hz TVs just do some image processing on the fames (and make it look horrible) the source is still 24 FPS
It's still a good example of how much smoother video can be at over 60hz though
That's completely different, 120hz TVs just do some image processing on the fames (and make it look horrible) the source is still 24 FPS
I'm gonna have to disagree, I just went around town today to look and compare 60/100/200 hertz tvs, the difference is sick.
My clanmate (who has been playing Tribes since like 2004) has got one and says it's possibly the greatest monitor in the world for gaming.. it's pretty damn expensive though, but well worth it if you can afford it.
21" Triniton CRT is where it's at. 1800x1440@160 Hz :smug:
Oh bullshit, 160hz is only at 640x480. At 1800x1440 you get 85hz. 1600x1200 is the recommended resolution for those screens and those default to 100hz. The scanrate(resolution x refreshrate) for mine is 240Mhz max, so it does 1600x1200@120hz, but it gets its not rock solid like 100hz. I don't see much difference between 100 and 120hz, but I see it from 60 and 75hz to higher values.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the 120Hz monitors be much more sensitive to lower framerates?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the 120Hz monitors be much more sensitive to lower framerates?
No, low framerates (even < 60) still look smoother on a high refresh rate monitor.
I saw a 240hz television. I assure you, there's a HUGE difference.
No, low framerates (even < 60) still look smoother on a high refresh rate monitor.
it'll look exactly the same, refresh rate is just how many frames the monitor can display in a second
I saw a 240hz television. I assure you, there's a HUGE difference.
TV companies usually BS these days about frequencies.
'240hz' tv = 120hz with dumb smoothing I think
'240hz' tv = 120hz with dumb smoothing I think
60
I can't watch those TVs with the smoothing. To me, it looks ungodly awful, especially when its constantly bouncing between the normal FPS, and then moves it up to 60 or 120 or whatever and keep moving back and forth between them. Its annoying. I just like my shows and movies to be displayed exactly the way they were recorded, with no unnecessary post-processing.
60
No, it wasn't a television broadcast that was on. It was that game Vanquish, which has been used before to demonstrate 240hz TV's.
it'll look exactly the same, refresh rate is just how many frames the monitor can display in a second
It definitely looks smoother, probably something like the higher refresh rate allowing a delayed frame to be displayed sooner (completely guessing there though). It's only a subtle effect though, I'm not saying it makes 40 fps look like 60

It's really awesome for gaming it gives you a better overview without so much clutter on the screen, it makes movements done on the PC much more smooth, and movies look way different. Anybody who claims it's a placebo definitely shouldn't be talking.

And we can steal the spaces water and build a castle of it because water castles are bullet proof so we don't have to be afraid to maybe shoot random. But don't forget to drink water placebo
And what are you even talking about, a better overview without clutter? we're talking about refresh rate which has nothing to do with that.
