From Wikipedia:
A chiptune, also known as chip music, is synthesized electronic music often produced with the sound chips of old computers and video game consoles, as well as with other methods such as emulation. In the early 1980s, home computers became cheaper and more accessible than they had previously been. This led to a proliferation of personal computers and gaming consoles that were abandoned as users moved on to the next generation of software, and the hardware to run it. Despite this, small groups of artists and musicians continue to use these forgotten computers to produce audio and visual work. The game technologies that are typically used in chip music production are those produced from the 1980s up until the early to mid 1990s. These systems, including the Commodore 64, Nintendo Entertainment System, and Nintendo Game Boy, were aimed at the domestic consumer market. These systems were unique in that they marked a period in the technological development of game audio in which dedicated hardware sub-systems or sound chips were used to create sound.
I'm sure your all aware of the 8 bit music fad, and how people can turn any song out there into an 8-bit or even better 16-bit sounding track, like the ones on your old Nintendo's and Sega's. In this thread post whatever rock or metal genre related song that has been chipped. I'll start: 16-Bit: 8-bit I myself prefer the 16-bit stuff, although harder to find. And keep in mind, I don't actually have a fuckton of 8-bit remixes on my ipod cause I think it's cool, It's just interesting to see this shit.
The only problem I have with some 8-bit remixes/covers is some are made with a program that converts the instruments of a midi file to 8-bit sounding instruments and aren't made from scratch. These converted remixes are easy to point out and are really boring to listen to.
Here are 3 that I made, all of them originally by Dream Theater. Panic Attack: (Someone notified that at 0:35 it sounds like the Super Metroid boss music) Repentance: Overture 1928
Hakita's music is boss. Also from the title I expected Anamanaguchi or something.
Some stuff i've written over the last couple of years. Most of them are really short, never finished any of them. I don't even know what bit this is. All I know is that it's in the same style. [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] oh yeah, I made it too. [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] and I just called it 8bit just cause, I don't actually know as stated above.

I don't know if you chip-tune fans are prejudiced hipsters or whatever but I think Anamanaguchi are the KINGS of chiptune rock. [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] oh shit you guys are talking about something different.
Turning music into 8/16 bit does not sound nearly as good as songs MADE as 8/16 bit.
