Presidential son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner has had his security clearance downgraded — a move that will prevent him from viewing many of the sensitive documents to which he once had unfettered access.
Kushner is not alone. All White House aides working on the highest-level interim clearances — at the Top Secret/SCI-level — were informed in a memo sent Friday that their clearances would be downgraded to the Secret level, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.

A statement released by the Trump campaign attributed to White House senior adviser Jared Kushner Tuesday is in seeming violation of federal law prohibiting the use of official titles in political work.
The campaign had used Kushner’s title and his position as an “assistant to the president” in its press release announcing Brad Parscale as the campaign manager for the 2020 re-election effort. The title has been removed from the copy of the release posted to the campaign website after questions from the Associated Press.
Better late than never, I guess, but he never should have been granted access to those files without the proper clearance to begin with. This was long overdue.
I saw some speculation online (mainly via comment sections/forums so nothing high end in terms of sources) that Kushner was perhaps selling intel to foreign entities to pay off debts of his, in his lack of ability to directly pay his debts otherwise.
If that speculation has any truth to it, this is a good development. Well, of course it's a good development anyways, but still.
He never should have had access to begin with. An entire year of having access to the President's Daily Brief (which Trump himself never bothered to read) on a temporary security clearance with a billion undisclosed things left off his filings, while being subject to federal investigations of high conspiracy and assorted shit. This is why America has anti-nepotism laws.
WaPo just reported that at least four foreign governments are known to have discussed ways of manipulating Kushner

Then why did he have access to these documents in the first place? Come on America get your shit together

Because Trump is a God Fearing Republican, and corruption/scandals/etc only matter when it's those dang dirty liberals doing it.
Turns out Kusnher wasn't the only one hit by this:
More Than 30 White House Aides Lose Top Secret Clearance, Sources Say

More than 30 aides to President Donald Trump have been stripped of access to top secret intelligence, two people familiar with the move said.
The officials have been notified that they will be downgraded to a lower-level “secret” interim security clearance while their background investigations continue, said the two people. None of the officials have been asked to leave the administration and their portfolios on top secret matters will be distributed to other staff members, they said.
Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, also has had his security clearance downgraded as result of the same new policy on interim clearances set by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, said another person familiar with the material.

This is why we have nepotism rules.
Anyone else remember when mishandling classified intelligence was the worst thing imaginable?
Thank God. No one who lies on their clearance application and fails to disclose that they owe foreign entities millions of dollars should ever be allowed to access that kind of information.

Shouldn't a person who does that go to jail for several years?

Should, yes. Will? Depends on the person as has been made readily apparent.
