The boy, who cannot be named because he is underage, met the victim online in December 2011 and they started playing online games, including Gears of War 3, a game that carries an 18+ rating. The Daily Record says the pair from Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire in Scotland met up and became real-life friends but soon had a falling out, which led to name-calling on the Xbox. However the fight escalated on April 14 last year when the pair ran into each other and exchanged heated words. At that point the accused held the victim by the throat and slashed his neck. The High Court in Glasgow heard that the accused sneered at the victim saying "don't die" before calmly walking away. The 14-year-old required 20 staples in his neck and the attack has left him scarred. The accused apologised to the boy via the Xbox before he was arrested. "Honestly you don't know how upset I am. I'm sitting here on the x-box just to say I'm sorry bro," he wrote to the victim. That was followed up by another message after the attack which said, "I know you won't accept my apology and I know I'm going to get the jail, but I am actually so upset and so down." Police have questioned the role the violent video game may have played in the attack. "The reporting officer was of the opinion that the violent video games played online by the accused may have been a factor in his conduct," Prosecutor Andrew Brown QC told the court.
http://www.perthnow.com.au/technology/boy-13-from-scotland-slit-friends-throat-in-xbox-row/story-fnhod56e-1226635032129 Damn those violent video games!
"The reporting officer was of the opinion that the violent video games played online by the accused may have been a factor in his conduct," Prosecutor Andrew Brown QC told the court.
is the officer a clinical psychiatrist? no? fuck off then.
Good god, the kid who raped and shot his mum because she took his CoD. Now this. The media are gonna have a field day.
We don't fuck around up north.
It's glasgow. This is commonplace anyway without videogames. In fact, the games probably helped. If he wasn't playing them, the other guy probably would've killed him and then repeatedly kicked his dead corpse shouting "DINNAE FUCKIN MESS WITH ME HIY YE FUCKIN WALLAPER"
Clydebank
Just another day on the banks of the river.
If you're gonna relate this to the game somehow, don't blame the game for being too violent or a bad influence, blame the parents for disregarding the 18+ age recommendation.
is the officer a clinical psychiatrist? no? fuck off then.
Who cares... His qualitative, unfounded, and uneducated opinion is all I need. :v:
He clearly didn't learn this from Gears of War.
I never understood why people decide to randomly stick in a middleman in these cases. I'm pretty certain people have been murdered because they were arguing about movies. If that sounds ridiculous, that's because it is. As is this. The kid clearly has some kind of issue, it's not like video games are a magical catalyst. But of course, the media never report on all the video game charities and all the good done by gamers. I bet if you took some guy who helped out some person in need, they'd probably have Call of Duty in their house. That doesn't mean CoD helped him do that thing, it just means he likes CoD. At this point, we might as well redefine 'video game' to 'scapegoat for violent crime'.
What's with these xbox related news lately?
Well he didn't curb stomp his entire head in so I guess you can't blame Gears of War Case closed we win again
Must've left a badass scar.
/scotland
Must've left a badass scar.
Scars like that are always ugly.
"heated words" aw m8 ur a bluddy ijit naw, ur mum
Ok new rule: no violent entertainment allowed for 13 year olds oh wait
Its not violent video games that make kids violent. its violent kids made violent by violent video games. From a gamers perspective to parents. Video games should be regulated properly and maturely. Some kids can handle postal 2, some need to wait till their 17 before CoD. IMHO the best bet is to stick to cartoon violence. A good game like Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead is your best bet. Something that is super unrealistic. At about 14-15 Stalker or Counter Strike Tier is good. Assassins Creed if they are very mature and respectable. Batman, Fantasy and Nintendo 'classics' and especially gmod are perfect for 13. Of course, kids who aren't crazy can handle all games.
"I know you won't accept my apology and I know I'm going to get the jail"
EY BOYO, YOULL GET THE JAIL FER WHAT YEVE DOON!
Eh among all the crimes connected to someone playing mature-themed or violent games reported recently, this news article (and the one reported by Daily Mail) seems to focused on the game and console a lot. (They even put up a trailer of the game lol). The Daily Mail one is the best; Their sub-heading
Gears of War 3 rewards players for finding ways of murdering opponents
Ultra Violent lol
Of course, kids who aren't kids can handle all games.
I must be one of these kids then, I've been playing violent video games since I was 8, and look how I turned out? I am a massive serial killer. But to be honest, I turned out fine. Some kids are made to handle all types, some kids aren't made to handle all of them.

In moderation, don't be a douche about out. You wouldn't give a 13 year old Postal 2.
This is the media. They don't give a fuck if video games actually makes you violent or not. For as long as it's scares the mongrel population, they'll report it.

The worst that came of it was probably embarrasement when I asked my dad why the car started bouncing and I started losing money when the lady with weird clothes got into my car... Other than that, I'm perfectly fine...I think.
Kids playing 18 rated games. Of course their little minds are going to get fucked. Police should enforce fines or jail for parents allowing kids to play 15 - 18 rated games cause their minds cannot handle it.
I don't understand how people will try to correlate this behavior with the violence of video games... "Well we took his video games away and he tried to kill us, video games cause violence." LOOK AT THE REAL FUCKING PROBLEM. THE KID IS CLEARLY SUFFERING FROM ADDICTION. But no, lets ignore the problem and just blame the video games because WE ARE FUCKING STUPID. Go find someone addicted to heroin and try and take it away from them. I bet they will be pretty pissed too. It's because these kinds of behaviors are associated with addiction rather than the content. [editline]4th May 2013[/editline]
Kids playing 18 rated games. You have no proof that their minds cannot handle it. I watched my brother play and I played grand theft auto (from the original series when I was a kid up until San Andreas) and look how many crimes I have been convicted of, all 0 of them. I've never even been pulled over for a traffic stop, NOT ONCE. If my mind couldn't handle the video game, why am I not out raping bitches and driving off bridges?

To say "Of course their little minds are going to get fucked." is just ignorant. A fine for that? Bullshit. No, we need better education to parents on the subject.
xbox live is swiftly becoming the number one cause of manslaughter
whats with all the Xbox related anger lately?
