TecToy, an officially licensed manufacturing partner, has begun taking orders for a new console that bears a striking resemblance to the original and also features support for the original game library and controllers. It will also sport an SD card slot and support for A/V cables, but alas, not HDMI, reports the Daily Dot. Originally released in North America in 1989, the 16-bit game console was part of a spirited battle for game fans' hearts. Sega had Sonic, a blue hedgehog, as its mascot. Meanwhile, rival Nintendo had Mario. But in the nearly three decades since Sega Genesis' launch, the game industry has changed dramatically. With those changes, Sega retreated from the console business, becoming a third-party developer. But the console remains popular in Brazil, where preorders for the system are running 399 Brazilian Real, or about $125.
Wha?
It's fucking expensive, IMO.
Wha?
TecToy has a partnership with Sega since the 90s, giving Sega an edge on the console market here for a while. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tectoy
the console is popular in brazil? huh
is it one of those Famicom clones?
is it one of those Famicom clones?
Nah, famicom clones were popular in USSR and China, Latin America preferred clones of Mega Drive and Master System.
i still have one from the 90s
Putting an SD card slot in there was a good idea I feel. It's really cool to see game consoles be revived like this.
the console is popular in brazil? huh
Sega basically dominated Brazil due to Nintendo not being present, so even to this day there's still people buying and playing Master System and Genesis games. Kinda sad until you consider video games being rolled in with Brazil's shitty gambling tax. That's why the PS4's over a thousand dollars there.

I heard the hardware isn't completely bootleg like some that TecToy have produced before, but it isn't a fully featured Mega Drive/Genesis either. Some games might not work.
If I didn't already own a Super Retro Trio, I'd probably import one
i still have one from the 90s
Same here. After all the moves , growing up, buying new consoles and god knows what else contributes to your childhood consoles vanishing, my Genesis is still here with Sega CD attached to it. Only problem is that my games will randomly freeze. Been meaning to get it looked it.
it's a good choice because the market for Sega is also really strong in Brazil for a long time the Master System kept getting software made for it long after its lifespan
Here's a comment from a Brazilian Reddit about this
Brazilian here. Just to complement the original post, the big deal here is that this is the original hardware, not an emulator. The brazilian manufacter just added a boot chip (with the in-memory games) and a a/v digital signal converter. A lot of people are complaining the lack of hdmi port, but they wanted to keep the retro aspect and the cost low.
So it's not those shitty emulator Genesis.
Here's a comment from a Brazilian Reddit about this So it's not those shitty emulator Genesis.
Now I'm actually interested.
It would have been awesome if it had HDMI but I can understand that alot of people in Brazil still uses SD TVs.
If it is original hardware why are people saying that the 32X and Sega CD don't work with it?
If it is original hardware why are people saying that the 32X and Sega CD don't work with it?
No cart slot afaik, it's an SD loader essentially an internal flashcart
But it's not SD card only, it has a cart slot
If it is original hardware why are people saying that the 32X and Sega CD don't work with it?
Probably doesn't have an expansion slot (so no Sega CD). As for 32X, it might be like the Model 3 that couldn't use the 32X (or even Virtua Racing)
As much as I'm happy to see it, I can't bring myself into purchasing one of these, specially since I use an old-ass Pentium 266 as an abandonware/emulator box. I would, however, love to get my hands on one of those joysticks :q:
If it is original hardware why are people saying that the 32X and Sega CD don't work with it?
I think they're fully aware how terrible those things were. I'm interested how the emulator is going to be. If it's on-par with the NES Mini Classic's interface, I might consider importing it.
Is there a link where we can buy it?
Tectoy themselves are taking preorder and it's going to be released on June 2017, but I don't know if they dio international shipping. These are the games that comes with it pre-loaded on the SD card: ALEX KIDD ALIEN STORM ALTERED BEAST ARROW FLASH BONANZA BROTHERS COLUMNS DECAP ATTACK E-SWAT FATAL LABYRINTH FLICKY GAIN GROUND GOLDEN AXE GOLDEN AXE 3 JEWEL MASTER KID CHAMELEON LAST BATTLE OUT RUNNERS SEGA SOCCER SHADOW DANCER SHINOBI 3 SONIC 3 TURBO OUTRUN
i would definitely buy it if it was available somewhere that ships overseas
