but you can't paint a turd gold and let it sit out in the sun expecting it to sell like hotcakes.
they need to build a volvo before ford then a volvo after ford, they are probably going to screw it up big time.

Well the thing is they don't start off with a turd but with a gem.
Then they're going to take that gem and ram a great big crack through the whole thing in their efforts to refine it, if we're being pessimistic.

Imho I'm guessing they're actually just going to use the HW2 engine and rebuild the textures and models. Probably some of the soundbanks.
And replace the netcode with steamworks or something.
If by "fresh coat of paint" they mean upgrading to modern OpenGL and bringing it to more platforms then I suppose I could only agree.
No they mean they're adding farts and 69 jokes. Also outsourcing the whole thing. That way everyone can bitch even more.
Honestly a proper HW1 port with updated graphics and higher quality sound could be something gearbox could use to show they aren't complete tools, since the company created a deadly whirlpool and then deliberately sailed into it with DNF.

Where would they get higher quality sounds apart from maybe generic effects? The original VA is brilliant and the OST perfect, unless there's some super high quality samples in the data they received with the auction they can't really do that much
I do wish they'd get HD cutscenes though, maybe the original art is there

yeah I mean the generic sound soundbanks. The gun, destruction and similar effect. On top of that, they should actually have most waws of the VA and music now, so replacing the original in game, with higher quality ones shouldn't be an issue.
Judging from past experience, Gearbox has rooms full of fresh paint. Mostly poorly ventilated ones.

Well it could also use modern resolutions as well as the fact that HW2 doesn't even run on Windows Vista or higher unless you fiddle with the settings and even then it's not great. They're just outdated games.

but homeworld is a great series. i think you wanted the phrase "you can't beat an egg too much"
Homeworld Custom Edition confirmed
but homeworld is a great series. i think you wanted the phrase "you can't beat an egg too much"
Eggs don't mouth off to me.
"We're totally fans this time, we promise!" - Gearbox, before putting funds into Brothers in Arms 4's meme jokes.
Well the thing is they don't start off with a turd but with a gem.
Don't get me wrong i love homeworld, it's the closets space rts that's what you expect space rts to be. However, the learning curve dosen't hold you by the hand. So i assume the ui and controls will change to Taylor to a 'younger' generation. And it being gearvox which has focused for years on fps, boarderlands sure but aliens and the retouching of duke makes me a pessimist. I hope they dont screw it up.
1 bad game and suddenly Gearbox is literally Hitler.
Gearbox has a long track record of putting out fine-ass games. Homeworld is in good hands.

Two in a short period of time while refusing to accept responsibility on both, has changed people opinions. Also, how Randy Pitchford reacts to critism isn't good either.
Remember what gearbox said about DN when acquiring that game and look how that turned out, then look at A:CM... yeah,.
People are just giving Gearbox shit because they're still angry over Aliens CM.
I don't know how you can fuck up an HD re-release so bad that it will be utter garbage like some people on this forum want to happen.
When gearbox wants a game to be good, it is good. AC:M was most likely a money grab, Duke Nuken was just something they made playable and put out to the public. Everything else has been top notch. Borderlands 2 was good as fuck when you look past the 3 dick jokes and 2 meme references, and brothers in arms has yet to have a bad entry (furious whatever is a spin-off). It's hard to take the gameplay mechanic of ships blowing each other the fuck up and turn it into something terrible.
But no, Gearbox is the worst developer on the planet and they've never put out a good game RIP homeworld the series is ruined.
ACM was bad because Gearbox used most of ACMs budget on the original borderlands.
But it still wasn't their game. Neither was Duke Nukem Forever.
They obviously care about Homeworld, otherwise they wouldn't have spent millions of dollars trying to get it.

And they can just switch from from fps to rts development teams like a snap of a fingers and not dish out the work to third parties when they make the third one?
It depends on what is caring when it comes to making money, there's the traditional caring which is what's being believed and then there's making money type caring.
Companies with some age don't change on a dime without decent restructuring, gearbox has the potential to do so though.
I love it when people complain about Gearbox. It makes my day even better.

Homeworld 2's engine needs lots of memory tweaks and reworks, it wouldn't be very good to build off. Homeworld's engine would need a complete overhaul to be used for anything, while a very robust engine, it has many hard coded limitations that need to be fixed. It's also written in C, which means it'd be difficult to work with since no one uses C anymore.
They'll likely have to make a new engine, or get a hold of an existing one.
As for sounds, they can get Paul Ruskay to help out since he was the game's composer and sound designer, and he's an independent contractor. As for the Art, it was said they contacted Blackbird for help following the IP pick up, so there's a chance they'll get Rob Cunningham to help direct or provide the better art assets.

Some of the design decisions in Borderlands 2 make me question whether certain people at Gearbox should be allowed to hold sharp objects, much less design a video game.
I just want to hear that ion cannon sound again. It is probably my favorite sound effect. It just sounds so... deadly. It is absolutely perfect.
I found nothing wrong with Duke Nukem Forever besides animations and plot. It was okay
Agree, it was a mildly enjoyable mindless action shooter.
God damn I hope they get Paul Ruskay on the soundtrack again, it really just wouldn't be the same without it. They said the team in charge of homeworld are all big fans of the series, so fingers crossed they bring him back.
