I'm looking at netbooks for school, preferably around 200$-350$ with the best performance/battery life.
I'm pretty sure Asus makes the best ones. Someone else here can give you an exact model for your budget.

It's possible to get a Netbook for $300 or even less, but then you would be cheaping out wishing you spent a little more money. If you catch my drift. Here's a good one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220679 [editline]17th October 2010[/editline] About $340
If you can scrounge up any extra cash you'll want to buy a 2gb RAM stick and throw it in there as well, makes a big difference.

My brother has an HP mini 311 and all I can say is if I was getting a netbook it has to HAVE more than a 10" screen. 1024x600 ain't gonna cut it. Having an 11.6" 1366x768, with Ion video acceleration AND HDMI output turns what could be considered a small half assed laptop into pure handheld awesomeness. I haven't got a chance to use it for very long though, so I don't know how long the battery charge lasts, but I never heard him complain about it.
I have the HP Mini 311. It's fine, just don't expect to use it for anything other than web-browsing and schoolwork. Other than that it's rubbish, and I got the one with ION for gaming, and mine can't even play CS: Source.

The hp one is more expensive and has worse specs, and you don't buy a netbook for gaming..
It does high definition, which is what the Ion is for, who games on a netbook honestly? And if you can get by with a small 1024x600 screen, good for you, but that's too small to be usable for Office or a browser.
