Does wifi tethering require an unlimited data plan?

No. It just requires an internet connection. And an ISP that doesn't restrict it.
So if I have a 250mb (sucks I know) limited data plan, tethering my phone and browsing on my laptop won't do anything bad?

You can do it, but you'd burn through 250mb in 1 hour maybe?

If you really don't mind it, disabling images in your browser when using tethering and it may as well be infinite.

Opera's browser for pc's [B]ALSO[/B] got a function to compress web traffic in order to minimize bandwith usage.

Well, I have heard that EMT just caps your speed and does not make you pay more. Not sure, haven't went over the limit but that is what my friend said.
