Last summer the latest Suda51 game made its way to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Killer is Dead was released to lukewarm reviews and controversy surrounding its bawdy, quasi-misogynist “Gigolo Mode.” Even so, the game’s flashy art style and uncompromising grindhouse aesthetics gave it a cult following during a relatively slow summer game season. ! Now Deep Silver is bringing Killer is Dead to the PC. The publisher today announced that the game will hit PC on May 9. It will cost only $20 and will include extra content not seen in the console version of the game.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-17-suda-51s-killer-is-dead-hits-pc-in-may
i'm so glad that japanese developers have started noticing PC as a gaming platform recently
YES.
Yes! More action games on PC! More!
Its so anime, lol. That hair flick thing at the end... He doesn't even have long hair to do it with.
one of the weirdest games I've ever touched, but if you like character action it's a-ok
Don't even try to understand this game. It will not work.
locomotives are a man's passion
I'd really like No More Heroes 1 & 2 to be ported and with Wii remote support.
So what was the verdict of Killer is Dead for people that played it? I only heard lots of negative things about it being boring, repetitive and all around not being nowhere as enjoyable as No More Heroes and didn't really follow up on it
It's not as good as No More Heroes but is still enjoyable in its own right, tons of creative missions and flashy combat, only real complaint I have is the weird ass gigolo missions [editline]asdf[/editline] The boss battles are also really awesome, as you would expect

If anything, it's just a money pit as far as I can tell.
i'm so glad that japanese developers have started noticing PC as a gaming platform recently
you can thank steam for that, since the reason japanese devs avoided PC is due to insane perceptions of "piracy will kill our profit", which is much stronger in japan.
you can thank steam for that, since the reason japanese devs avoided PC is due to insane perceptions of "piracy will kill our profit", which is much stronger in japan.
Steam is great and all, but i think it'd be fairer to thank the success of recent ports (ie. Dark Souls, Metal Gear Rising) rather than Steam besides, its not like Steam stops piracy
I thought the combat was fairly stylish, but also kind of basic as far as action games go. And enemies that block your attacks really ruin the flow, because you have to stop attacking to do a guard crush, then continue attacking, then guard crush again, etc. Also the gigolo missions were more boring than offensive. The humor wears off after the first one and it just gets tedious. At least they're not hard.

uh cool i guess, but how about one of suda51's actually GOOD games?
i'm so glad that japanese developers have started noticing PC as a gaming platform recently
Still waiting on Sega to decide to port the Yakuza games to PC, man that would be a blast.
I'd really like No More Heroes 1 & 2 to be ported and with Wii remote support.
Gotta agree with this. Tried playing one with dolphin after my wii stopped reading discs, and it ran like absolute butts.
I'm perfectly fine with this. If this does well, we may even get No More Heroes.
That's another game crossed off the "reasons to keep my 360" list. Not much left on there. Regret watching a full lets play of this now, did so just because I figured I'd never get around to playing it on console.

I only heard lots of negative things about it being boring, repetitive and all around not being nowhere as enjoyable as No More Heroes and didn't really follow up on it
Probably because the plot of the game is so weird that you can actually only figure it out by looking it up online seeing as there are important plot points that just aren't in the game. It wasn't received well by western media because at the end of the day its a run of the mill character action game with a plot that you only understand by reading up on it because it just doesn't explain anything in game. And not in the dark souls 'plot is there if you look for it' kind of way, just stuff happens and its never explained unless you look up some random interview suda did and he kind of explains it.
it'd be cool to see all of suda's games on pc does anyone know if killer7 is still stuck in licensing hell?
Gotta agree with this. [editline]17th February 2014[/editline] Around $1200 dollar rig stuff. And even then there's the arguments of you can just buy a Wii and softmod it with that money etc.
https://dolphin-emu.org/
Yeah I know and I probably will get it going once I get the right stuff for it but its nice to have a native version where you can just run it from the word go and have the stuff from heroes paradise with the wii remote.
Except Dolphin runs most games like ASS.
Ahem. Allow me to record myself playing Metroid Prime 2's Wii port at 60 fps. Pleb.
Killer Is Dead was super weird, but I'm totally gonna pick it up again just to support Suda. If you have a PS3 and are interested, try to find a physical copy. It's pretty cheap, and the packaging is great.
