WEDNESDAY, Aug. 20, 2014 (HealthDay News) -- U.S. teen birth rates fell dramatically during the past two decades, plummeting 57 percent and saving taxpayers billions of dollars, a new government report shows. An estimated 4 million fewer births occurred among teenagers as a result of the decline, according to researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That "eye-opening" reduction in births "leapt out at me from the report," said Bill Albert, chief program officer of The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. "We know, for instance, that only about 40 percent of teen mothers ever graduate from high school," Albert continued. "Translate that number -- 4 million fewer births -- into a much, much lower high school graduation rate, and think about the prospects for those young women in this day and age and in this economy. It's pretty sobering." The researchers estimate that taxpayers saved $12 billion in 2010 alone as a result of the decline in teen births since 1991, since teen mothers are more likely to need food stamps, Medicaid and other government assistance. A child born to a teen mother costs taxpayers $1,700 a year from birth up to age 15, the CDC report said. Who would have thought that the increase in proper safe-sex education would lower the teen birth rate?
Who would have thought that the increase in proper safe-sex education would lower the teen birth rate?
certainly not any americans, if anything our sex-ed system has gotten worse in the last 10 years. though the internet probably makes up for the fucked up pseudo-christian values imposed on the education system
Thank god, let's hope for some more actually planned families this generation. Say what you will, it makes for a better childhood in general if the parents know what the fuck they're doing.
Albert chalked up the declining teen birth rate to the "magic combination of less sex and more contraception."
probably more up to the "magic" combination of more sex and much more contraception and much more education regarding sex
probably more up to the "magic" combination of more sex and much more contraception and much more education regarding sex
I don't think magic really factors into it, does it? If you use birth control, you probably won't have kids. It's pretty straightforward.

I think you're just looking too much into the bad.

The number of single parent households has increased both absolutely and as a percentage of all households. If anything people are generally less prepared to have children. I am glad to hear less teenagers are being born
Yeah there's still that, but if the parents aren't so young and inexperienced, it's not all bad. I mean, there are many single moms that actually have a backbone and don't take shit from unruly hellspawn, even if there are just as many, if not moreso, jellyfish teen moms who cave to their offspring's every screeching demand. If your kid's acting like a little shit, you put them in their place before someone buys all the apple pie in the joint just to spite your incompetence. Gotta balance out control and freedom to shape your kid right so they aren't just another waste of 20 years of care and support, yet don't end up as a tool of the man.
Or maybe people learned that having a baby during your teen years is a REALLY BAD idea
Really? They learned that? From what? 16 and pregnant or one of it's 20 other clone shows?
Really? They learned that? From what? 16 and pregnant or one of it's 20 other clone shows?
I don't think people actually watch those shows, but I'm probably wrong
I don't think people actually watch those shows, but I'm probably wrong
they wouldn't make them if people didn't watch them.
Who would have thought that the increase in proper safe-sex education would lower the teen birth rate?
Not my school. [sp]I went to a Catholic school and all they talked about was how condoms/masturbation/everything sex was evil[/sp]
Damn you WoW and CoD. Back in my day we didn't have video games and all we could do is fuck each other. What happened to the good old days
certainly not any americans, if anything our sex-ed system has gotten worse in the last 10 years. though the internet probably makes up for the fucked up pseudo-christian values imposed on the education system
You sure? When was the last time you were in school?
Wasn't it much worse in the 70s compared to now because of the massive western culture change?
probably more up to the "magic" combination of more sex and much more contraception and much more education regarding sex
While I don't agree with your first post, your second post is partially true alot of teenagers that have sex will just get the boy or the girl to take a pill or wear a condom or vice versa instead of both of them using multiple contraception methods at the same time.
