heat of the moment maybe? tasers are carried on the left though, not the right. the officer still could have panicked and got the two mixed up. they do feel similar in hold.
US police usually carry the X26 or similar:

It's quite possible to mistake the two. Not so much the X26, but if they carried the older model - the M26, then yes, the mix up could very easily have happened.
I live by Oakland and shit did go down. The news is saying at least 80 people were arrested.
