the best one is the second IMO. by the way FP is gonna rant about the borders.
haha why?...
First: Too contrasty Second: Too blue, I think it would be better with original colors Third: Out of focus/ very grainy (But I assume this was the look you were going for?) Fourth: Borkeh Fifth: Nice colors, boring subject Sixth: Nice looking Seventh: A bit too contrasty Eighth: Good composition, out of focus. Overall: I hate the borders, pretty good work but don't take my critique as only criticism. There are nice things that I see with your photos I just did not bother to type out, since I have to leave the house in a few minutes. [editline]12:16AM[/editline]
haha why?...
Because borders seem pretentious and are unneeded. And will overall get in the way when you go to print your work.
This belongs in a museum
I certainly like most of these. I think you can improve on how you balance out your composition, but overall I really like what you're doing. Fo realz What sort of camera/lens do you use?
I like the harsh lighting in the first picture, but I'm going to venture a guess you turned your ISO way up and your shutter speed way... fast... to get that in the sunlight? It has a bit of grain (though that could be intentional, my bad if it is) that I can't stop thinking was odd color/light differentiations from the high-ISO's side-effect. the second is a good picture overall, like the composition and the quirky expression, but I've never really enjoyed the faded off-color thing unless it's on a crinkly old photo in a photo album I found at my grandparents' house. The high black-point just strains my eyes in most cases, though you found a moderate balance. Third... I'm reminded that it's Finals week at college this week, along with most of the highschools in the area. STUDY! Ah, the bokeh effect. Simple in its own rights, but it's a bit lacking in your shot. The negative space is overwhelming the picture, and there's that wonderful dark-void ISO haze lurking around. ...If you aren't touching ISO and I'm nagging you about nothing, stop using it in auto (provided you're using an SLR) :v: Fifth... meh. Tones are drab and the subject is nothing extraordinary. If you provided an artists' statement with it and had a deep thoughtful story of why this picture is meaningful, about how nomatter what we see as home, it isn't unique, or that even though we may live in separate places, everything is interconnected in our lives... or something like that, I'd be more inclined to consider it an artistic piece, much less a snapshot. That water is beautiful, I wish I managed a shot like that last time I tried... though it would have helped if I had the sun in the right direction for those reflections :v: the Ferris Wheel is interesting, that poem is exactly what we needed around the house. I'd have criticized it for being like a lot of other shots of ferris wheels (though those clouds are pretty neat), but the addition of the poetic story helps to draw you into the moment, and feel like you're standing underneath this imposing monolithic monument to the redundancy of our lives, wondering what it all means. And of course, the (self-portrait?). I love the lighting, a bit less grain than in areas it usually shows up, but the expression is a little mild for following an exclamation such as "time fading with my life!". It still shows worry or concern with the furrowed brow, but still lacks that... sharpness to the expression. I actually did a shot like this just last week, and put a heavy dose of anger into it... which is hard for me, I'm a pretty mellow guy. :v: [img_thumb]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2769/4156988957_f1a972454b_b.jpg[/img_thumb] Overall, a very good set of pictures. I liked that you did a mini poem-based diptych with the ferris wheel and portrait, it's nice to have sets of pictures that work together in one way or another. I could probably figure a way to add one or two more of the other pictures into a grouping with those two, but then the poem wouldn't work anymore (or would it?) Good techniques you have going, I look forward to seeing more stuff from ya.
Very nice. I really like the last two, the second to last probably being my favourite (great composition, love the moody sky.) The last one would look better with a sharper focus. I agree with Perfumly on the borders, your work is good enough to not have to try and make them look better with distracting borders. Also, I'm not keen on the Bokeh one, but that's probably due to my loathing of all things bokeh, mainly brought on by Flickr's current obsession with bokeh christmas lights. :v: If you do want to do a Bokeh picture, it'd look better with a bit more light and detail in the background, and less noise (a lower ISO or lighter conditions will sort that.)
