Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has won a third term in office after securing 88.7% of votes in Tuesday's presidential election, the parliamentary speaker says.
Earlier, Syria's constitutional court put the vote turnout at 73.47%.
Voting took place in government-controlled areas, but not in parts of the north and east held by rebels.
Tens of thousands of Syrians have died in three years of civil war in Syria, with millions more displaced.
President Assad's key challengers, Hassan al-Nouri and Maher Hajjar, received 4.3% and 3.2% of the vote respectively.
73.47% turnout in a wartorn country lmao
This is bullshit, pure and simple. No way he could have won legitly.
And the award for least surprising news article goes to...
I am personally surprised Putin didn't win
I'm more surprised anyone was brave enough to run against him after the war.
Shocking.

No one was running against him. Both other candidates were 'Approved Candidates'.

They're just token candidates put up by the regime.

Maybe it's 73% of those who are left in the country, and those in government territory.
Not like it really matters anyway the percentage is probably just made up or altered.
The hero Bashar is a true paragon of democracy. Hopefully these honest results will finally shut up the West and force them to rethink their support for the Salafi-Takfiri-Zionist drug-addicted Saudi thugs terrorizing Syria.
It's an absolute farce and international diplomatic community should have the balls to say that out loud.
It's 73% in government controlled areas alone, not the entire country. Assad is actually really well liked by people in those areas. It could be bullshit, but I'm not really shocked he won.

Cant tell if this post was a joke or not, but judging by the YES I'm assuming it is not. Everyone seems to forget why the fucking war started in the first place.
Well when you have the choice between Al-Qaeda and a brutal dictator, I'd probably choose the dictator.
