or maybe stop limiting player contact outside of dungeons and raids and pvp, like you know, you used to have to actually talk to people, one of the strengths of an mmo - now everything is a button press

Garrisons have sort of destroyed social interaction. I'd actually be happy to see them go in the next expansion.
and nobody is surprised - this expansion is missing SO much content compared to the other expansions. It honestly feels like a beta.

WoW was never a social game. You never had to talk to anyone if you weren't raiding or doing dgs/bgs.
Garrisons were a lot of fun imo.
But I miss when people actually had to talk to each other to play. Now you can level 1-100 and get through all content without saying anything and that isn't what an mmo should be like.
-snip-
When I played WoW (for a month) I had a great time whenever people actually talked, but that wasn't often. Not sure if RP servers are different, though.
that's because it's running on a subscription based model 2015. People are going to feel obligated to play it if it's running on a Pay 2 Play platform and eventually it becomes a chore leading to people just cancelling their subscription altogether.
I'm not saying it's not working for them, but that's most likely what's happening, it's not a good time to still have paid subscriptions anymore, considering most other MMORPGs are most F2P or just free altogether.
$1.28bn a year, not including micro-transactions, I don't think they're hurting.

Most don't even outright quit, they just cancel their sub until they have something new to play.

Just my general experience, but chattiness on an RP server like Moon Guard, Wyrmrest or ED compared to any old PvE/PvP realm is like night and day.
I'd rather pay a subscription that have the game be pay to win.
I loved vanilla. I loved meeting with people to go to a dungeon and beat it with people who really enjoyed it and cared because the game forced you to interact with each other. Now you do some random dungeon finder, get some people who silently say nothing or simply berate you because they're so great, and quit the group. Guilds don't matter unless you raid, garrisons destroyed professions.... it's a grind fest until level 100 then you just grind for better gear. Maybe I've just lost the magic to the game, but I find GW2 to be more enjoyable now. Which is sad, because I have a lot of great memories with this game. I keep coming back to try and love it, but I burn out quickly.
