A teenage couple dressed as Tinker Bell and Peter Pan were denied admission at one of the Walt Disney World theme parks and the emotional testimony from the girl has gone viral on the Internet.
On Tuesday, WKMG in Orlando posted a news story about the incident, which was picked up by Yahoo’s Web show Odd News (anchor Greg Proops called the segment “Stinkerbell”), and the video has been making the rounds from there.
In the video, embedded below, 15-year-old April Spielman unsuccessfully fights back tears as she recalls how Disney employees forced her and her boyfriend to make a costume change.
“It ruined my dream, because I just wanted to be Tinker Bell,” she says.
Spielman describes how she spent months making the two costumes, and how it took her two hours to apply her makeup that day and another hour to fix her hair. It wasn’t a complete waste of time, as one park let the couple in but another bought them new, normal-looking clothes (sandals, shorts and shirts) and insisted they wear them instead.
Disney said they asked the guests to change clothes because their homemade outfits looked too much like the ones real walkaround characters might wear.
"The costumes were disruptive to our operation and possibly confusing to our other guests, as children were asking to take photos with them," a Disney spokeswoman said. "To make up for any inconvenience, we provided them with replacement clothing and assisted them with the rest of their visit in our parks."

“It just broke my heart,” Spielman says in the video. “I just didn’t want to take off the costume.”
The popularity of the video is reminiscent of one four months ago involving a curse-laden brawl outside the Tower of Terror ride at Disney’s California Adventure. That video, also embedded below, also went viral.

Its just a costume....
Well ain't that skimpy
She's obviously trifling for attention
I see both sides here, and I don't know which one I should take.
I am more on the side of the girl, simply because Disney probably should not have made her undo all of her work just to fit in. On the flip side, the girl was pretty clearly asking for attention, and Disney shouldn't have to put up with that.
I think it's more that it's a known Disney character and other people might think she worked there. They do have a lot of people working in costume in Disney Land.
Disney is VERY well known for kicking people out who even THINK of cosplaying Kingdom Hearts. I don't see why not for other characters too.

Also, this.

Damn whippersnappers - you can see her ankles!
Jesus fuck that video hurt to watch
It's in the policy and makes sense, and they even provided clothing and assistance
Stop (literally) crying for attention
What? Are you serious? Wearing that goddamn costume inside a Disney park was your dream and it broke your heart? She's being way too over-dramatic. She's crying. Are you serious.
If anything, it should be a compliment. They basically said "your costume is way too good that people will think it's official." I don't see why you have to wear it inside the park, what's so dreamy about that?
Do they realize how much shit Disney would get if the guy and girl were rude to someone.
They'd get complaints up the ass about one of their 'employees' doing the wrong thing, and have no idea what to do.
Also why is the girl crying? "I couldn't wear a costume to Disney World" is one of the biggest first world problems I have ever heard.
I work for Walt Disney World and it's policy to ask the person to remove their costume if they look too much like the real thing. If they look too much like the real thing, then these people can fool other people into it's a character for the Disney Park. If these people see this and the person who is dressed up as the character acts inappropriately as said character, then this will cause guests around them to believe they work for Disney. In all honesty it's for sake of reputation and keeping the magic alive in the parks.
My dad used to work at Disneyland and explained this to me. Disney is VERY strict about where costumed characters go. As you'll notice she was allowed in to the main Disney park which is the traditional one which has Tinker Bell as well as several of the other traditional characters. She was not, however, allowed into the Wild Kingdom, which does not have Tinker Bell. Employees themselves, when in character, CANNOT enter an area that does not match their character. For example, Buzz Lightyear cannot leave the Tomorrowland without explicit permission (such as a parade). She was also confusing smaller children who were asking for pictures and autographs, meaning she was taking away from the jobs that performers are supposed to be doing, so I completely understand this decision. I watched the interview and I'll trust Disney's statement on this issue.

You also rule for working at Disneyland.

Wow, grow up. Disney has a legitimate reason to keep people from appearing to be real Disney employees and the park that didn't accept the costumes bought the change of clothes for the couple. I would say that is a fairly reasonable compromise.

Dayum, thats a 15 yr old? :yarr:
the fuck is wrong with this woman
Poor girl.
Just wanted to be Tinker bell.
Her life must be ruined I'm crying oh my gosh this is so sad
[editline]10th June 2012[/editline]
If this was so important to her why didn't she do some research to see if it was OK before she went?
Rules are rules, I dont think she should be as pouty as she is about it.

I love how you can say that without a hint of irony
It's their property and their rules. Don't like it, go somewhere else.

Oh whoops sorry mate, read that wrong.

I agree with Disney. They have characters walking around already that are paid and interact with guests. It would be confusing and weird to have look-a-likes in the park as well.

you talk as though it's hard to say it in the sentence
I think disney is being totally fair. If people mistake her for an employee and she fucks up, Disney is the one that's gonna take the heat.
Disney's argument seems to hold. I don't think she needs to get that upset over something like this, and in all honestly she should have seen it coming.
Why can't she be like the rest of us and dress up like Tinkerbell in the privacy of her own bedroom.
People in this thread are such critical assholes, lmao. She's a 15 year old girl, chill out.
Disney goes to the 110% for making sure everthing is perfect at their parks. This is well within reason.

It's for the kids, genius. I bet you're the kind of person who tells children Santa Claus isn't real too.
It'll attract me to Disneyland. So why not. But not a 15 year old fatty.

It's the fact that these two and the media are egging it which is pissing us (at least me) off a bit about this.
