McDonald's is installing digital menu boards at restaurants nationwide that will make food recommendations based on the weather.
When it's cold out or raining, for example, the digital menus might recommend heartier meals and hot drinks.
"It can monitor temperature outside and it will know which products sell better at hotter or colder temperatures and promote those products," McDonald's US President Mike Andres said at an investor meeting in New York City on Tuesday.
The boards will show moving images of McDonald's food to better engage customers and bring their attention to certain products.
Andres said customers ended up spending more on every transaction in restaurants where the new menu boards were tested in Canada.
We've had the digital boards here for a while now and I really like them. The rare times that I go to McDonalds the menus have always seems very crisp and easy to read.
I sure hope these screens get a good disinfect every day
Ive seen a bunch of them around Brisbane. Not sure if they do the change menu thing though. But they've had the scrrens for a while.

I'm sure that'll come down to the particular franchise and how good the employees are.
Just like everything else in the restaurant, now that I think about it.
What a throwaway comment for me to reply to. What point were you trying to make?
Yeah, a while back, they installed them here since Canada was the test market. They're alright, but on occasion they'll display ads for promotional stuff that they're doing that span the entirety of the screens (with an S), and they'll hide all the menu items for the duration of the ad. Like, come on, I want to see what's on the menu, not watch some ad that can already be conveyed in-store things hanging from the ceiling, such as the ones they hang up when they do Monopoly.
Other than whole screen ads they're pretty damn nice. It apparently saves the employees a bit of effort since when they switched from the breakfast menu to the one that displays all the stuff you actually go to McD's for, they had to get someone to get a broom to reach up and flip the menus. Now it's probably a single press of a button, maybe not even that since it could change automagically when the time hits 10:30 AM.
I haven't seen how it behaves in different weather though. Either because I don't tend to go on shitty weather/can't be arsed to tell if something's different, or it's something completely new even for Canada.

We have one of these locally too
I also find some sources of digital displays going back to 2013

When he licks the screen suggestively like in a Motley Crue video, it should taste like a hospital.

Oh good lord the bezels.
The one I usually frequent is pretty much bezelless.
The McDonald's near me got rebuilt recently and the screens in there are super nice and easy to read. Wouldn't mind more places that deal in Fast Food getting them as opposed to old menus that they slap new stuff on.
I swear Australia is where Macca's does its experiments.. We've had stuff like this for yonks.

Are we supposed to know what that means?

The part around the actual screen.

Oh wow terrific. Thanks guys I'll be sure to look out for those Bezels the next time I'm perusing the dollar menu at my local Mickey D's.
If they don't have Bezels I'll be sure to complain to the manager, thanks

you do already excel at passive aggressive bs, so complaining to people about food is probably your forte

one time they didn't give me my happy meal toy and i was very upset, i'm sure you can relate

"Here's your order"
flings it
"Why the fuck do you have these bezels on the screens, I demand the manager fix this shit now!! I can't enjoy this food anymore as long as they're the way they are"
It opens up a lot of potential for innovation. Could sync up to repeat customers' phones or NFC tags or what have you, and let them get their usual meal, no matter how specific, ordered correctly every time.

Rude, McD breakfasts are great. I'll take commercial-grade-machine drip coffee over overpriced espresso any day.
Had these screens for ages in NZ and now they are brining in that design your own burger menu thing.
If you thinkg multi monitor bezels are pretty great and everything else gets you aggitated
wait until you see my desk
there's at least 10cm gap between all my monitors
We've had the menu screens for a while. They're nice, until an egg mcmuffin flies across the screen to advertise breakfast and you can't read anything for 30 seconds
Oh this is just the menus over the counter? I thought it meant these touchscreen ordering things we've been getting in the UK

Yup, the ones over on top by the counter.

These are great though
We were going through the customisation options for a chicken wrap
friend goes 'hamburger'
so I got a chicken wrap with a meat paddy inside of it :v:
Digital menu boards at maccas are the worst for me since they keep changing and I can't read them fast enough, trying to look up an item mid-order gets really awkward sometimes

at least you can actually read them though
Not a bad idea. Now make the food worth buying and I'll be interested again.
Are we supposed to know what that means?
Bezelless.
LEt's break it down.
Bezel: The bit of material, usually plastic but can be anything, that surrounds the screen of any display.
-Less: Suffix used to mean 'without'
Therefore, 'bezelless' means 'without bezel'.
Come on now, I failed English 3 times in high school and got that shit right off the bat.
We have it here in Maryland. It's fast as hell and I never notice it change depending on the weather because it's always sunny when I go there.

That thing is small. I went to macca's last week and the touchscreen was a TV the size of a fridge door, people could judge your orders from the sidewalk. Thus loaning more weight to Bradyn's post
