Assassin's Creed Unity will run at 900p/30fps on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Ubisoft has confirmed, with the publisher opting to aim for platform parity to avoid discussion over any differences in performance.
"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told VideoGamer.com while explaining that it's the consoles' CPUs – not the GPU – that prevents Ubisoft Montreal from improving the game's performance.
"Technically we're CPU-bound," he said. "The GPUs are really powerful, obviously the graphics look pretty good, but it's the CPU [that] has to process the AI, the number of NPCs we have on screen, all these systems running in parallel.
"We were quickly bottlenecked by that and it was a bit frustrating, because we thought that this was going to be a tenfold improvement over everything AI-wise, and we realised it was going to be pretty hard. It's not the number of polygons that affect the framerate. We could be running at 100fps if it was just graphics, but because of AI, we're still limited to 30 frames per second."
Last year's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag also shipped at 900p/30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One. A post-release patch, however, bumped the PS4 version to 1080p. Ubisoft has given no indication that it has plans to do the same for Unity.
Assassin's Creed Unity launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 14.

Whatever. I don't even care anymore. Let's see if the game plays like a piece of shit before we start talking about how it looks.
Glad to see they are really pushing those next gen consoles to the limit
Only good game in Assassin's Creed for me in the Pirate one.
All else can just bite a dong.
Ubisoft is worse than EA.
this is no longer an opinion. You can not refute this.
It's too bad they didn't aim for 60fps, I bet that would have felt great to play.
Cunt move.
Good job Ubisoft, now it's just Console vs PC instead of XBO vs PS4 vs PC.

Well part of having a game play well depends on how high the framerate can get, since the fewer frames are generated per second, the larger the potential for input delays or the game failing to register input properly.
It ain't just for games looking like they run smoother.
What this really tells me is that one console reliably outperforms the other.

What this really tells me is that PC masterrace reliably outperforms both consoles.

Well yeah, this is a given. Neither console can touch my GTX 970.

And that is the only console shown to be capable to run games at frames higher than 30fps.
The WiiU.
What this really tells me is that PC masterrace reliably outperforms both consoles.
We have known this since consoles first came out.

That's what everyone expected before Watch Dogs came out.
Ubi is not good at optimization.

Eh? Can't you just limit the updaterate of the AI logic then and still update the animations and other graphics at 60?

It's like everyone forgot that really shitty ass creed 3 port.
[sp]Yes, I bought it for full price, and fuck yes I regret it[/sp]
Anything in SH with Ubisoft in the title immediately becomes a cesspit these days

With Ubisoft games that usually isn't the case.
In fact this has me a bit worried about the PC version.
Was there really that much of an uproar with AC4 (PS4 was 1080p, XB1 was 900p) that this was warranted? Seems like a silly reason to limit hardware for what seems to translate to "the lowest common denominator."
Cunt move.
what?
Why are we blaming Ubisoft for this? Xbox and PS4 are both shit when it comes to 'next gen' and they're to be blamed for this fucking mess.
hell I wouldn't be surprised if they both released a second version of the consoles with upgraded GPU and CPU just so they can stop fucking around.
What is it with the Assassin's Creed devs and the lack of optimization?
AC II, III and Black Flag don't run nearly as good as they should on PC.
So now we've got consoles dragging each other down? Hah :v:
Wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft bribed somebody there.
it's a shame that it's not 60 fps but oh well... I'm used to 30 FPS games anyways, still will be buying the game and playing it just cause I liked assassin's creed, story-wise.
"We are CPU bound" is complete load of bull when they are capping resolution. Same framerate cap for both? Fair enough, but then there's no reason to not to give proper 1080 to PS4.

Except Xbox One games tend to be at a lower resolution than their PS4 counterparts.

Yeah, this. And this is generally something Ubisoft would do, how does one call that, progress engineering? Ubisoft loves doing that kind of shit. Also lying to customers.
They're the fucking worst. Like at this point it's like they're trying to be an evil black mustache bad guy
And I wont be buying it on PS4 or XB1.
