• XP Installation not recognizing HDD

This is very strange. I'm working on installing a new hard drive in a friend's laptop and he gave me his XP installation disk. I throw it in and boot, but the setup says it can't find a hard drive connected. But here's the catch... the hard drive diagnostic tool in the BIOS says everything checks out 100%. If I installed XP on the hard drive in a different laptop would I be able to simply transfer it back without any problems on either laptop?
It sounds like you'll need to slipstream the chipset drivers into the XP install. Check this guide on how to do it, its fairly simple. http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slipstream-sata-drivers-into-xp-cd/ Just make sure you get the correct drivers, they should be available from the manufacturers website. Simply installing it on one computer and putting the hard disk back in the other computer will most likely not work.
I had this with 7 and I just clicked "Browse for Drivers" then selected the drivers for my RAID controller... worked fine

Sure it does have the option to install third party SCSI and RAID drivers by pressing F6 before the install but you need a floppy disk and there's a good chance his laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. 7 is really great for detecting these kinds of things, XP well not so much.
So I'm looking for SATA drivers? Does it matter that the only drivers available on HP's website say Intel, even though this laptop is an AMD? Also, it appears a USB floppy drive is needed. TO BEST BUY!

You'll need to follow the tutorial I posted above to include the drivers with the Windows installation.

Just use nLite to integrate the chipset drivers
Alright thanks. I just want to get it right the first time, ya-know?

The tutorial is just being general, you can do it with any drivers. SATA is part of the chipset drivers.

I've never worked with modifying an OS installation like this. Thanks for the help, I'll let you know if it doesn't work. [editline]06:23PM[/editline] Nevermind, got it. Thanks.
