So I am moving into my dorms shortly and my roommates are toying with the idea of getting a nice home theatre setup. I am saying to get kit that includes a reciver, 4 satellite speakers, a main speaker and a sub-woofer and my roommate is saying to just get a receiver and two Bose speakers. I am saying to get this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9238844&type=product&id=1218065494324 He wants to get this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9256486&st=recievers&lp=13&type=product&cp=2&id=1218069451904 and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4746225&type=product&id=1051806234629 My idea costs less at about 350 and his will cost about 600. He says that he would rather wait to get better surround sound speakers than get cheaper ones. He also claims the receiver he chose is expandable or something. Whatever that means. My thought is that you won't be able to tell the difference between a pair of 300 something dollar speakers vs. a pair of 500 dollar ones. I also do computers, not A/V. I don't know that much about it, but I can learn fast. Also it must be from Best Buy (shudders) because I have a gift card for them.
You're in college.. are you really gonna sit in your dorm and watch movies? [editline]04:40AM[/editline] save that money for food, beer, weed, etc..

Plus there is plenty of weed in the room, and food is cheap if you know how to shop right.
Alright, well.. My dad has a bose speaker setup, its fucking amazing (it shakes our house, which is made out of concrete with steel bars going down the middle of them). I think the four speaker setup with the subwoofer will be good. I don't think getting something too drastic, because you might all just move out at the end of the year, and you guys will go your separate ways..? I would just test them out at the store before you buy them.
Amplifier wise I'd take the denon over the Sony any day. Speaker wise I'm not to sure, I'm not a giant fan of Bose, Not that they are bad - Bose is a bit like marmite and I happen to dislike marmite.
