White washing money.
Guys, it's Steam. The game you want is going to be on sale within a couple of months. If you want a discount that badly, just wait for the sale. To the two people rating this dumb, the point of the post was: "Don't buy Steam keys from anywhere but Steam or actual TRUSTED third parties such as keys for the HIBs or keys you get with ATI/nVidia cards."
Or just buy it full price because it's a ridiculously good value going to a passionate PC indie dev.
Some games are worth buying full price for supporting both a good game and also devs that are part of the community from the start.
Not only did Unknown Worlds fail to receive payment for the 1,341 Steam keys, but the developers were forced to pay a $22 charge-back fee for each copy. In total, the sorry affair has cost them $30,000.
Why is this possible? The devs did nothing
Why is this possible? The devs did nothing
Its an automatic fee for chargebacks, since the idea is supposed to be that the seller was at fault, when this wasn't the case in this incident.
Seems like a bummer Surely the devs noticed this bulk payment quickly
Why is this possible? The devs did nothing
Chargebacks are meant to be used when the seller did something fraudulent and such the seller is the one that is to be punished.
very unfortunate for the gamers who were scam
-snip- i read the article wrong
Keys sites always look very shady imo.
Why did people even bother doing that anyways? Its a fantastic indie game that's only $25 at full price and has already gone on sale through steam itself TWICE at 50% off in the 5-6 months its been fully released. I can understand trying to save money on full title releases, but all they've managed to do is screw themselves out of money and the indie devs out of even more money to save a very small amount. Its a hard lesson to the people who were scammed, and hopefully the devs can be compensated for these shenanigans rather than being punished.
Why is this possible? I wasn't some rich company which makes 6-7 digits either, I ran a gaming community which broke maybe 5 digits. I think Paypal rewarded me back like $850 about 7-8 months later. Why is this news? This is the cost of doing online business.
I often buy steam keys from GMG, they often have great coupon discounts and Australian's don't have to pay twice as much on their website. Hopefully they're okay :tinfoil:

Buying a key for a game that is only available for 2 set prices from 2 online stores and not available in retail is always going to be a bad idea. [editline]9th March 2013[/editline] Means they would of had to pay the normal price to get the keys in the first place so they shouldn't be able to discount it.

Great game Such a shame this had to happen to them, I'm enjoying the crap out of NS2
GMG is a legitimate digital distributor, no worries there.
Speaking of GMG, I think I worked them out. They sell keys cheaper than Steam does, thus they get plenty and plenty of traffic, and that's how they make their profit.
