I figured since there is quite the population of bass instrument playing musicians on facepunch, it might actually be cool to make a thread just for bass instruments! Here we can talk about theory, music, bass solos, techniques, being under appreciated, and anything to do with bass instruments. All bass instruments include,
Bass Guitar

Cello

Upright Bass

Baritone

Tuba

And anything that plays in the bass cleff
This is our clef As many of you probably know (seeing as I talk about it quite often), I play the tuba. The tuba is probably one of the most versatile instruments in existence. Anything a violin can do a tuba can do and tons more, though I am often the bass voice for the group and rarely have the opportunity to provide the melody for the group, but when I do the song instantly becomes better of course! A tuba Like most of my bass brethren, my role is often taken for granted. Most people don't understand what us bass players do by providing a foundation until we aren't there to give them any support. I love the instrument though, and all other bass instruments. You haven't played an instrument until you played a bass one.

I play bass guitar, and I can somewhat play euphonium. low brass isn't my thing, though. I prefer smaller mouthpieces. ( french horn & trumpet preferably ) alsooo, I wish I had an upright bass. I want it both to bow and play pizzicato. [editline]10:45PM[/editline]
Anything a violin can do a tuba can do...
can a tuba do chords? :P Although I'm not putting tuba down, just saying. :P
Don't forget the Bass Viol, also known as Bass Cello.
He said upright bass. Bass is awesome, I play used to play double bass, and I currently play bass guitar and my voice is bass.
My name is Gmod4ever and I am a recovering euphonium player of four years. Euphoniums represent!
can a tuba do chords? :P Although I'm not putting tuba down, just saying. :P
If there are enough of us. :v: But yeah, pretty much anything. Yes, that is a famous violin solo being played on a tuba.
Nice video, the musician looks quite funny while hes playing though, his eyes are just huge! I didn't realize you could play like that with a tuba, it's amazing...

I play bass lines on my trumpet how low can you go
Heck yes, I love music with a really heavy bassline.
I'll soon be among you bassiscians (yes I invented that word [I think] so fuck you if you don't like it! :v:), I'm getting a bass guitar for my 18th next month.
Bass is for people too lazy to learn chords. :downs: Gotta love the bass, all bass guitar fans should check out this and have their balls exploded Bootsy Collins fuck yeah
I play baritone, upright, and a 6 string bass. For the best of jazz and metal
A scientific expedition disembarks from its plane at the final outpost of civilization in the deepest Amazon rain forest. They immediately notice the ceaseless thrumming of native drums. As they venture further into the bush, the drums never stop, day or night, for weeks. The lead scientist asks one of the natives about this, and the native's only reply is "Drums good. Drums never stop. Very BAD if drums stop." The drumming continues, night and day, until one night, six weeks into the trip, when the jungle is suddenly silent. Immediately the natives run screaming from their huts, covering their ears. The scientists grab one boy and demand "What is it? The drums have stopped!" The terror-stricken youth replies "Yes! Drums stop! VERY BAD!" The scientists ask "Why? Why? What will happen?" Wild-eyed, the boy responds, " . . . BASS SOLO!!!"
do bass synths count?
I do believe that bass synths count. Also; trombone!

I REAAALLY want to start playing upright bass. IT has such an awesome sound in jazz, which is what I want to start playing.
Getting a precision bass for Christmas :slick:
Piano has a bass clef :saddowns:
Thread needs more bassoon. Seriously, it's a fantastic instrument and I'm so glad I play it.
He is an amazing tuba player! and does that tuba have rotary valves like a french horn? :P
Yes, it isn't very uncommon. Most high end tubas use rotary valves. Hell, we have 3 at my school that are rotary valve.
Bass is for people too lazy to learn chords.
Not in any way true.
that's why he used :downs:
I play bass along with guitar, piano and drums. I see bass as a background sound. There's too many ignorant people who treat bass guitars as unimportant simplified instruments. They obviously doesn't play guitar as any guitarist realizes the importance of the bass. Or if they do play, they probably just know a few chords and call themselves guitarists.
Yes, it isn't very uncommon. Most high end tubas use rotary valves. Hell, we have 3 at my school that are rotary valve.
Well, we don't really have any good tuba players at my school. That's where I come in with my bass guitar. :P (for both marching band & concert)
that's why he used :downs:
My bad, I guess I see that being said too often by people who actually mean it.
Bootsy Collins fuck yeah
I am completely inspired by that solo. Holy shit.
I already posted this in the guitar discussion thread, but seeing as this is the bass specific one, I'll put it here too.
I've been reading around (like I should have fucking done a week ago...) and it seems that not many people have good things to say about that bass kit thing that I'm getting... This disappoints me... The only other option (I'll have to convince mum to switch, which seems possible, seeing as we haven't actually bought the bass yet) was this Yamaha pack, could anyone here tell me if this one is any good? http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/products/musicalinstruments/guitars/electric/bass/rbx.asp#RBX170 http://www.andysmusiconline.com/products/yamaha_gigmaker_eb.html
The "bass kit I'm getting" in question is an SX Bass Kit.
Well, we don't really have any good tuba players at my school. That's where I come in with my bass guitar. :P (for both marching band & concert)
Wait, seriously. A bass guitar for concert?! I love our tuba line is very good from what we are told. We are often the most complimented. What is funny is that, we were actually told we had a very good sound in one of our judges tape, but we actually needed to back down. That comment was made with 7 tubas in a college stadium playing with around 100 other players. :v:
