I'll get this game once it's finished
That's a very good idea, i've already gotten burned out on it, was going to wait until at least beta phase 3 to start. Couldn't wait though. It should really be called an alpha right now though, so many things are getting changed, the initial public release of the beta was vastly different compared to now.
but it will be the final time such a wipe will occur.
Good. The constant character wiping is annoying as hell.

there has only been one wipe, and that came with the threat level/damage update
Yeah, I've completely stopped playing as I'm going to lose all progression after the next update.

I stopped playing because the game don't have enough to make it anything but Terraria in Space.
It has potential, but right now it's just the same game in a different setting. It needs more long-term content besides:
FIGHT BOSS
GET NEXT TIER OF ARMOR
FIGHT NEW BOSS
to be worth while. And it doesn't look like Chucklefish has the plans to do that.
Yeah, after playing it for a while I forgot why I was even excited for it in the first place.
I think I just got sucked into the hype train because I was still loving Terraria.
Little did I know that this is really Terraria in space except with an even more tedious starter tier.
I'll probably try it again when it's feature complete.

Just finding shit to properly explore the galaxy and such is a chore, I get burned out on it quickly.

I wish exploration was more worthwhile. There is literally nothing underground except for catacombs, and exploring laboratories and prisons don't provide any good loot. It would be so much more appealing to me if there was any reason to not be isolated, I'd like to stay in a city but there is nothing to do to prevent guards from going almost hostile on you the second you swap to a weapon. No real interaction with villagers of X race.
Calling it a Beta was a bad idea.
There should to be some sort of "build your own colony" mechanic. Something substantial that puts it apart from Terraria. Some sort of endgame goal that ISN'T combat, because combat is NOT the game's forte.
You can! And you can spawn npcs
Literally all you do is build a building and put people in it. That's barebones as fuck.
I mean a REAL colonization component. Not an afterthought like we got. I wasn't expecting anything like that going into the game, but I can tell you now that something like that is what the game needs to amount to anything worthwhile.
As it stands its fun to explore for a little bit, but there's nothing holding you to playing more.

Fucking dwarf fortress!
there has only been one wipe, and that came with the threat level/damage update
There's been several. I've lost three saves to character wipes.

In space
"as the game gears up for its final release"
Hasn't it only been a month or two since the beta started? How soon will the game be released?

According to them it could take a year at least to get it largely feature complete, and even then it'll take even more time for the whole game to be released.
I'd say a little over 1 1/2 years.

I have had the game since it was made available on Steam. There has been one wipe, and that came with the update that overhauled how combat worked. Every update since then has recommended that you start a new character, but it has not been necessary and they have not forcibly wiped character date other than the once.
The game is fun but because I'm piss-afraid of the character wipes all I've done were a bunch of gigantic mud buildings that were either empty or filled with tables and crates.

Ah alright, that's good. The article made it sound like it was a lot closer.
