Well I'm getting cable soon but i live in Australia and as you'd know Australians get screwed over big time when it comes to anything relating to technology (iphone 3gs in america is $99 now, in Australia its like $700). In Australia we only have one provider, Foxtel (obviously owned by fox) and they pretty much have a monopoly and keep increasing their prices. It's AU$88 a month (about US $70) for about 50 channels. How many providers do you guys have, how much does it cost and how many channels do you get?
here's a channel list of what i'm getting (animal planets listed twice because the channel list is comprised of more than one package)

cabely
Sucks to be Australian.
I think our cable costs about $50 and we get nearly 100 channels. We get it from Charter Communications by the way. ( This is just a rough guess, I haven't really checked what the exact package is in a while. )
Foxtel is shit. Pay so much for 50 channels and only ever watch 10
and you need to pay for the 40 to get the other 10.

And yeah this, you pay for all those channels and only ever watch 1/4th of the ones you get.
If you decided to buy say a DirecTV plan for the same amount of money per month you'd get around 50 HD channels and 200 standard channels
All you really usually need is discovery channel, BBC, and the weather channel anyways
we pay probably something like $100 a month for TV with the upper channels, Internet (10/1) and phone
lets just say I've tried to get my parents to let me tip the amount of money being spent in favor of Internet performance

hint: I only watch about four channels on TV, the other 400 are completely unnecessary
In the UK we get 50 channels for free. You need a digital receiver (analogue has been turned off anyways) and that's it.
Then you can buy a Sky subscription (starting at ~£20), which gets you up to 700 channels.
what are you talking about?! I have foxtel, we pay about $120 a month and we get ~600 channels.

That's pretty cool. Over here in Canada we only get about 12 channels without a cable subscription.

Tv is pretty shit entertainment compared to the stuff you can do on the internet, anyways.
Ok well lets see, I live in the US and our cable gets around 900 channels, and 100 of the stations are just music, and most of them are in hd, and another 100 stations are just sports.

Oh, and I get the package that includes phone, internet, and tv. This all together is about $120.

Most of the channels are relentlessly shit mind you.
BBC 1 2 and 3 are usually good as is Channel 4.
Besides that there's Dave (Yes we have a channel called Dave), Yesterday (the history channel) and sometimes Virgin 1. It's also worth noting that about 8 of those 50 channels are teleshopping.
Dave is amazing.
50 channels for $70? Jesus that's fucking expensive.
Can be utter shit sometimes. Full of "reality" shit that's just turrible. Discovery is hands down the most entertaining network.
shitty
Basic cable sucks dick. There are only about 60 channels and only 5 or 6 of them are any good, where 1 or 2 are playing something worth watching at any given time.
Premium cable is slightly better. There are hundreds of channels, however most are just the HD version of the basic cable channels and movie channels you don't get to watch unless you pay an extra 15 to 20 bucks/mo. Shit sucks.
I pay for Premium Digital Cable because I enjoy watching X-Play on G4 and the old Nickelodeon shows on Nicktoons.
Digital TVeeey
In other words, tv sucks.
To survive, all I need are BBC-HD, Dave and ComedyCentral!
Man the Charter Cable over here in the U.S. sucks ass. The problem is that with so many fucking channels there are only a few that have anything good on them. And the on-demand sucks just as bad. The only good thing would be pay per view, discovery when they are not putting out crap like monster quest, the history channel, and that is about it.
i wish i could get a 3GS for under £100 :frown:
it costs £500 new over here :argh:
I only really watch 4 channels.
BBC 1
BBC 2
Channel 4
Dave.

You pay a TV license fee, so it's not free.
I pay about 30$/month for basic cable. I get about a hundred channels. I get SyFy (retarded name, by the way), Spike, History Channel, and USA, so I'm satisfied.
I can choose between one cable company, a few satellite companies, or hook up an antenna and get about five free channels.
I have Optimum, the Internet/Phone/TV "triple play" package. I like the commercials more though.

We pay about 100 bucks for cable, with 2 DVR boxes, and the movie packages.
Or atleast I think that's how much we pay.
