A British soldier fatally wounded in Afghanistan earlier this week had just become a father. Pte Prior's first child, son Logan, was born just a few weeks ago Private Daniel Prior, 27, from 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, was injured in a blast while on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand Province on Thursday. He was taken by helicopter to a military hospital in Camp Bastion before being flown back to Britain. Pte Prior, whose first child, a son called Logan, was born just weeks ago, died at the Queen Elizabeth NHS Hospital in Birmingham on Friday with his family by his side, the Ministry of Defence said. His death brings the total number of UK military personnel to have died since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001 to 360. Pte Prior was born in Brighton and grew up in Peacehaven, east Sussex, before moving to Colchester, Essex, where he lived with his wife Emily. He flew back to the UK from Afghanistan four weeks ago for the birth of his son and stayed home briefly before returning to active duty. Pte Prior deployed to Afghanistan with D Company, 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment last October and was described as "bright, inspiring and able". His parents Ian and Gillian made a joint statement with Pte Prior's wife, saying: "Dan was a lively young man with an amazing sense of humour. "He was a wonderful son, husband and father. We are all tremendously proud of him and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends." Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Harrison, Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, said: "This bright, inspiring and able paratrooper knew the risks of war more than almost anyone - his uncle died the year before Dan was born fighting for this great battalion at the battle of Goose Green in the Falklands conflict." I was so content with my life til I saw this thread. I just had a good filling meal with great company and as soon as I read this title, my heart sank.
my grandmother died today, now this makes me feel much worse
Sad thing is, while any casualties on the "good side" are apparently always sad, nobody cares if the "bad guys" are newborn dads.
This isn't news, people die every minute.
Um, okay? How is this news worthy?
Sad thing is, while any casualties on the "good side" are apparently always sad, nobody cares if the "bad guys" are newborn dads.
It's not the "good side" it is our side serving our interest. The "bad guys" are serving their interest which conflicts with ours
Sure this is sad, but really, why does this even matter?
This isn't news, people die every minute.
Preparing the public for incoming shitstorm aka nuke afghans
"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget."
Well, at least he got to pass on the genes, so he did survive in some sense.
Sure this is sad, but really, why does this even matter?
Because they died serving their country.
It's not the "good side" it is our side serving our interest. The "bad guys" are serving their interest which conflicts with ours
But they are people too. There is basically no difference, other than personal opinion. [editline]20th March 2011[/editline]
Because they died serving their country.
Dead is dead. No difference.
Ugh don't the MPs get depressed when every Wednesday during PMQs, the PM reads out condolences for that week's casualties every time.
Sure this is sad, but really, why does this even matter?
Because a child is going to grow up without ever meeting his father. That's a pretty heartless thing of you to say.
You guys have no respect for soldiers? Stop staring at a screen and go see what shit is going down over there. They're trying to help, yet sub-humans think that their landed is being forsaken. No, they're helping your children get education, water, food. Yet they just plant IEDs, use kids for suicide bombings and a whole shit load of other things. You sit behind a screen, yet I would highly doubt you'd ever say what you think on here.
Um, okay? How is this news worthy?
i can't wait to read news where someone has killed you, and a thread about it posted on fp news section oh wait, that's not gonna be news worthy
I was so content with my life til I saw this thread. I just had a good filling meal with great company and as soon as I read this title, my heart sank.
Come the fuck on. The man was a soldier, you can't possibly feel such a depression for a man fighting in a war that you didn't even know.
Come the fuck on. The man was a soldier, you can't possibly feel such a depression for a man fighting in a war that you didn't even know.
Considering my dad has served 3 tours in Afghanistan/ Iraq, and he will be going AGAIN, in around 3 months, i beg to differ.
Come the fuck on. The man was a soldier, you can't possibly feel such a depression for a man fighting in a war that you didn't even know.
Doesn't mean you can't show respect for a loss of a LIFE. I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand.

This post seems so ignorant that I just want to believe it was written by a troll, but again here I am responding. No one said anything disrespectful about the soldier, him being a new dad is undoubtedly a very sad thing, but it is debatable whether that fact on its own is newsworthy. This was the only thing being debated here. And as you said if this is just a forum, with people making comments behind their screens why should you care what they say? And that sub-human comment was really a foolish, childish and again very ignorant insult. Who are you to judge people to be sub-human? There is a foreign military force on their land, something they did not wish or want and they are taking action against it. Using child bombers is despicable, but IEDs and suicide bombings are the only way they can fight back, so what they are supposed to buy tanks and armor and fight a real war? And from the way things have been going, it is safe to say they are not bringing/brought anything but long and bloody conflict to the middle east. It was an extremely idiotic post, but again your nickname is Imperfect so maybe it all fits.

Ah well, go back to NWO and Illuminati :)

I don't think anyone WANTs to use IEDs and suicide bomb and shit. But they are brainwashed, and then continued propaganda makes them believe things. But so are you. Propaganda like this. propaganda that makes us think they are the abd guys, while no one is. There are only opinions.

"Pte Prior, whose first child, a son called Logan, was born just weeks ago, died at the Queen Elizabeth NHS Hospital in Birmingham on Friday with his family by his side, the Ministry of Defence said." They suck at writing stories apparently. Sounds like the kid died in that sentence.
I would think this happens more often.
Doesn't mean you can't show respect for a loss of a LIFE. I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand.
Respect for life is different than digging a pit of misery for yourself.
I would think this happens more often.
I'm sure it does... It probably passes by the media's nose more often though. News like this puts me in a sad mood either way :saddowns:
