Frank Ocean Opens Up About His Sexuality - "I feel like a free man"
54 replies, posted
Frank Ocean has just posted a statement on his Tumblr in which he appears to reveal that he is bisexual or gay. In the piece, which he says was supposed to accompany the liner notes for Channel Orange, he admits to having fallen in love with a man. It closes with, "I feel like a free man. If I listen closely.. I can hear the sky falling too."
Although the language is vague, it nonetheless marks a very brave step. Frank Ocean's crew, Odd Future, have been criticized for their virulent anti-gay lyrics, although Syd the Kyd, the group's sole female member, is an out lesbian.
As an introduction, Frank first posted on his Tumblr,
BASEDGOD WAS RIGHT. we're all a bunch of golden million dollar babies. my hope is that the babies born these days will inherit less of the bullshit than we did. anyhow, what i'm about to post is for anyone who cares to read. it was intended to fill the thank you's section in my album credits, but with all the rumors going round.. i figured it'd be good to clarify...
He then posted the full statement:

I don't know if you can read the image but maybe someone could provide the post link?

its good for now, but I still think that this whole "coming out" deal should be avoided further on, because it just makes being gay a realy big deal when it shouldn't
This is all great and all, but who the hell is Frank Ocean anyways?

not to mention OF has got some homophobic lyrics. most of them may or may not be actual homophobia.

i doubt it's really meant to be taken seriously seeing as syd the kid came out as a lesbian a while ago
not to mention OF has got some homophobic lyrics. most of them may or may not be actual homophobia.
I would believe that they aren't. Though they do trash talk Bruno a lot calling him gay and what not.
frank ocean's p fuckin sexy
also he's dropped hints about his sexuality before
in oldie he says "I'm high and I'm bi, wait, I mean I'm straight"

Now that you've said that. I remember listening to Oldie the first time and being like "Did frank ocean just say he is bi? That mofo is too sexy to be bi." Then I felt bad about calling him sexy.
What's up with singers/celebrities suddenly coming out of the closet?
What's up with singers/celebrities suddenly coming out of the closet?
if I had to guess it's probaly due to Obama saying he openly supports gays, which seemed to have affected the country's opinions on them as a whole
then a few celebrities come out and then others follow their example
Frank ocean is pretty much (imo anyways) the only member of odd future who had some sort of staying power in music. he is also a mean rapper even though he does r&b
for the most part the Rest of em relied too much on gimmicks of "LOL SWAG ME OUT PUNCH BITCHES" for them to stay relevant after their initial popularity (i still like you odd future but its getting kinda old...)

so what you're saying here is barrack obamer is turning our america gay
Out of the thousands and thousands of celebrities, a few dozen came out in the past few years and people wonder whats up?

Good for him and all, but it won't change a god damn thing in the Hip-Hop industry.
Given Kanye and Jay's track record, I think they're going to be pretty reluctant to work with him again. Despite how wrong it may seem to the common person, in rap culture, having an association with a gay (unless they're lesbian) artist is grounds for being ridiculed and ripped on in the songs of your rivals or anyone you're feuding with. May not seem right, but just because Frank came out doesn't mean anything is going to change in that industry any time soon.
uh what?
Kanye:
But then my cousin told me that another one of my cousins was gay, and I loved him, he's one of my favorite cousins. And at that point it was kind of like a turning point when I was like, "Yo, this my cousin, I love him and I been discriminating against gays."
not really hating on gays there.
Jay-Z:
Jay -- arguably the most powerful person in hip hop -- discussed the issue with CNN ... saying President Obama's decision to come out in support of gay marriage was "the right thing to do."
“I’ve always thought it as something that was still holding the country back. What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love."
He continued, "That’s their business. It's no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple.”
pro-gay marriage
Accidentally rated late :(
And you think that's their real opinions? Kanye has fans from every group, is money-grubbing, and wouldn't dare change that, so he uses some excuse to give himself a better image.
The same with Jay-Z, who's the face of Def Jam after becoming the head of it. He's not going to say shit about how he really feels because anything he says represents the companies and therefore affects record sales.
Who the hell in their position wouldn't lie just to protect their image and assets? They sure as hell would.
so because gay people are bad according to rappers they are lying about liking gay people
that makes 0% sense

I was searching about for badbadnotgood songs a long while ago and stumbled upon this, only song I really know about him but I like it.
That sounds kinda fucked up, still trying to figure out if you're bi or gay.
I don't know the man, I don't give a shit about his personal life but I wish him the best.
its good for now, but I still think that this whole "coming out" deal should be avoided further on, because it just makes being gay a realy big deal when it shouldn't
It might not be a "big deal" but it's important. When a celebrity comes out it brings acceptance and confidence for gay people. I've already seen a lot of gay people saying they feel better about themselves and more confident on coming out because of Frank and how positively the news has been taken.
He didn't make a big deal out of it anyway. He did it pretty casually and didn't do anything big, he just posted it on his tumblr.

Too much autotune for my taste, but nonetheless good for him
