A female student gang-raped on a bus in India's capital Delhi has died at a Singapore hospital, doctors say.
"The patient passed away peacefully at 4:45am on 29 Dec 2012," a statement from the hospital said. The patient's family had been by her side, it added.
The 23-year-old had arrived in Singapore on Thursday after undergoing three operations in a Delhi hospital.
The attack earlier this month triggered violent public protests in India that left one police officer dead.
"The patient had remained in an extremely critical condition since admission to Mount Elizabeth Hospital," a statement from hospital chief executive Kelvin Loh said.
"She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain. She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome," the statement went on.
"We are humbled by the privilege of being tasked to care for her in her final struggle," Mr Loh said.
A team of eight specialists had tried to keep the patient stable, but her condition continued to deteriorate over the two days she was at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, he added.
The victim and her friend had been to see a film when they boarded the bus in the Munirka area of Delhi, intending to travel to Dwarka in the south-west of the city.
Police said she was raped for nearly an hour, and both she and her companion were beaten with iron bars and thrown out of the moving bus and into the street.
So have they found who was responsible for this yet?
This is bad, very bad. The protesters screaming for the blood of the rapists are only going to get more violent.
i hope the people who done this get whats coming to them
This is gonna be REALLY bad...

Mobs aren't good detectives, though it'll certainly scare the everloving shit out of other would-be gang rapists.
I'm really hoping her death was not in vain. Truly, I am hoping that as a society, they come together and demonize these acts the way we do. You cannot let people roam the streets like animals, attacking innocent people at random. India, don't let the story end like this.

With nothing to show for it but be the victim of one of the worst crimes this year, if not ever.
It may sound insensitive, but it's probably better that she won't have to live with such a horrible trauma dragging her down for the rest of her life.

She had severe brain trauma, which probably caused extensive brain damage. She didn't live long enough to show the extent of likely memory loss or cognitive impairment.
This whole case is fucked up. The incident itself, the fact that she died from it, the protests calling for death penalty, it's just so horribly fucked up beyond measure.
What kind of sick fuck would you have to be if you were one of the guys in the bus.
What, just throw her out and continue sitting towards your next destination? What even more the driver who just keeps driving like nothing's happening? Fuck this gay earth

The bus was hijacked, everyone on-board was in on it.
