Okay, I have Dell Optiplex GX270 and I'm attempting to install the latest Mint 11 (Gnome edition) on it. The problem is that I've been getting a whole lot of graphical screw ups. Like when I first boot the LiveCD it goes black for about 3 minutes. Finally the mouse comes up and I have to wait another 15-30 seconds. I can then see the desktop image but it goes black in a couple of seconds. While it's black the taskbar pops up and the icons on the desktop pop up unveiling a rectangle around the icons where the desktop isn't black. I've discovered that selecting the desktop (Click dragging across the whole thing) will reveal the background image.
Now the biggest problem is that I can't open anything. When I double click the home folder the explorer comes up but starts flashing extremely quick. I've found click dragging on random places of the desktop will negate the effect, but it barely helps. Keep in mind this happens with all windows, including the installer, which means I cannot install Mint 11.
I've also tried installing Kubuntu, it's a lot better but still pretty bad. I assumed the problem was with the video drivers but when using the proprietary drivers tool none are found.
Specs:
2.8 GHz CPU
1GB RAM
40GB HDD
Integrated Intel graphics (Can't recall which model)
They purposely made the bootscreen black. Just install the Mint Plymouth theme if you want it back. Try booting the LiveCD in safe mode (Vesa) and try the installation again.
Nevermind, I installed Mint Xfce and it works fine now. I'm suspecting Ubuntu and its derivatives are causing this. (As Mint Xfce is on Debian)
