So today I was infected with the "System Security 2009" trojan/adware/virus/whatever. It was quite annoying, playing ad sounds in the background and everything so I downloaded Ad-Aware and ran a system scan. It found around 80 trojans and I selected remove them all. Then I reset my computer because it said that a reset might be needed. On the reboot, when Windows loaded, a CMD window was open that said C:Program Files/Apoint/ApntEx.exe. I left it open for a while but when I realized nothing was happening, I closed it. Shortly after that I get BSOD'd. I reboot and do the same thing. Same thing happens. I never had the problem before and I haven't even downloaded anything in the recent past. Are there any HiJackThis pros or something that could help me? (Provided HiJackThis can fix my computer...) Halp! P.S. All system restore points were removed for some reason, and nothing will open unless I am in safemode, as I am now...
Run a scan with Malwarebytes and Spybot in Safe mode with networking. If you're running Windows XP attempt to do a XP repair install. A repair install keeps all of your files in tact, but recopies all of the major system files.
Grab as much shit as you can (music, pics, videos, etc.) and back them up. Reformat and reinstall.
Run in safe mode and do a system restore. That fixes it.
Did you read the entire OP? I said all restore points were removed. And now when I try to do something in controll panel or anything, basically launch any system program, my rundll32 cannot be found. I think my system might be FUBAR...How do I do a repair install? Do I need the Windows CD because I do not have it :(
You do need the windows cd to do a repair install.
Well I'm S.O.L. there...
Hi, can you open "Task manager"? If not then download and run this file: (do this in normal mode) http://www.2-spyware.com/download/task-manager-fix.reg Now you should be able to open Task manager. Then find and terminate these processes: 1) 05643921.exe (could be any other number) 2) install.exe 3) check for other suspicious processes too. Complete list of System Security 2009 files can be found here: http://www.2-spyware.com/megasearch.php?query=system+security&x=0&y=0 Finally, you should be able to run your antivirus or anti-spyware software. If you don't have one, then download MalwareBytes or Spyware Doctor. Good luck!
This might seem trivial, but check your autostart for suspicious crap too: Windows+R > msconfig, Enter > Tab system startup > Uncheck everything but the OS and Antivir stuff.
