Finally. I've been avoiding this game since just after early access so I can enjoy a full playthrough of the finished thing
I haven't played it properly for over a year, didn't want to when I heard about this update coming out, can't wait for it so I can start playing again.
I'll try to play it again at least, but I doubt it'll last.
It just seems a bit empty, even when it's nearly done, I want to like it but it's just not enough for me.

There is a feeling to me in starbound of a lack of a homely feeling. People think that having unlimited planets is a cool thing, but put into practice its hard to get just right. Terraria has a looping world you spawn in, while Minecraft has an infinite one. Both, to me, have a feeling of home. While minecraft's world might be unlimited, you pretty much never get a loading screen unless you're going to the nether. It still feels like the same world, and to me it still feels like a home. In Terraria you're on a limited world which makes it have that homely feel i mentioned before. You can see the change over time as you slowly build it up and stuff. Starbound does it different than those two. As much as you want to make a planet feel like your home, it can be hard. Unlike in Minecraft and Terraria where all the resources and excitement you need are on your world, your home, that isn't the case in Starbound. There are different planets with different ores that you can only unlock when you progress further into the game. Theres no reason to build a home on a planet for anything other than aesthetics. You can have all the equipment you'll ever need on your ship, and you can decorate that too. The ship is a better home than pretty much any other thing you can build on a planet, but it still feels lifeless and dead. Its only you and whatever random pet you spawn with. No fears of being attacked, no day or night to be scared of. Nothing. I feel starbound lost that feel of making a home, setting up things for yourself because its really not worth it. A better base is made in your ship, but that lacks on the feel of building a base in haste on a seemingly desolate world, where your only companions are things like a sheep or bunnies. Also, the railroading of quests for your progression make it seem much more linear than either minecraft and terraria. Being locked out of things because you haven't done something for someone feels pretty limiting. But thats just my take on it. I still like Starbound, it has some nice creatures and cool stuff and all. However, I don't think I will make a huge jump into it until somebody has made a mod that removes the required quests for progression.

Probably the thing I'm looking forward to doing the most once this update releases.
I always read about the game being so empty, but how bad is it? I absolutely loved the game when it first released and managed to accumulate 92 hours of playtime in just a few days. I was hooked. eventually I lost interest since I burnt myself out and I haven't touched it since its release in early access. even newly released into early access, I was having a blast. the only real complaint I have which is probably invalid now, I don't know, was the fact that there was absolutely no reason to build on planets.

The game was just so fun to explore, and it was great to see all the dungeons an civilizations. Not to mention the killer soundtrack.
