[release]Edmonton police have damaged or destroyed 171 cruisers this year mostly in collisions that could have been prevented, according to a recent article in an internal police newspaper.
"This poor driving has to stop," Supt. Brad Doucette says in the Oct./Nov. 2011 issue of EPS Connect. "We are putting our safety and the safety of other road users at risk through our bad habits."
According to the article, the majority of these collisions were not caused by officers responding to emergencies. Instead, the blame is placed on poor behavior like "inattentive driving in regular conditions" and a failure to follow traffic regulations.
Officers caught breaking traffic rules or driving carelessly will be ticketed or charged and will have to pay fines out of their own pockets, the article states.
"We are expected to be the best drivers on the road and, when a citizen sees us breaking the law in normal driving conditions, that reputation is destroyed," Doucette says in the article. "In too many cases, the police car is destroyed as well."[/release]
Even the cop gets in trouble.
How do you fuck up this much?
HAHA, oh wow.
I hope they really drive the point home with some docked pay as well. The economy is already crashed, we don't need any more funding blowouts. That would just wreck their reputation.
Fact: No one in my country can drive. Not even me.
Fact: No one in my province can drive. Nearly been ran down too many damn times while crossing a street.
Wow, that's a new car every 2-3 days for a year.
Were your Police trained by Hollywood by any chance?

Sometimes I think the traffic police should be a completely separate branch, just so police officers know that even they can't ignore traffic laws.

Police cars should be outfitted with a swipe card reader that's required for the vehicle to operate and when it detects sufficient g-force it automatically withdraws money from the officer's chequing account, and plays a pre-recorded audio message stating "you're a moron"
Maybe they're the ones drunk at the wheel.
Good to know I live in a place with a competent police force!
Why not throw in some exploding houses or two, and spice it all with murders!

-and back to the article, that is an impressive record. I can't wait to join the force!

I'd imagine it was something like that scene in The Blues Brothers?
Every time I've been to Edmonton/Alberta I've seen at least 15 terrible drivers in a row.
Why?
I read it as Edmonton police ordered to destroy their police car after 171 crashes this year and thought they feared that their car was cursed :v:

What if they actually had to ram a car, or if a criminal ran into them
cop cars get treated like absolute shit
Wow, that is hilarious, well not for the tax payers. That's a lot of fucking cars.
The department/office I worked for took cars seized in drug deals or other crimes and use them as official cars. We got cop cars that are fucking blinged out suv's with 22 inch rims.

I always thought they sold that shit at police auctions and used the profit to buy their own.
Loose cannons everywhere.
If you think that's bad, I think you should get a taste of fort mcmurray driving, I hate my town,

depends, we like to keep the nice ones. They're used for undercover work and drug stings.
